Well maybe not, they've extended the lead since he went to the locker room. Also a Patrick Mahomes sighting in the crowd.
Owens came back out, but didn't play much. Tech pulled away but MSU got back in and looked like they had the ole MO...but Tech out scored them in the last 2 minutes. Great win for Tech. I like them over UVA.
Very intense, entertaining game. Tech won it in the opening minutes of the second half when, against a tough MSU defense they scored on 9 of their first 11 shots. Some of those were not high percentage shots either. Meanwhile State was just awful from the foul line. In a game like last night's you have to score from the line. They missed a number of front ends of 1 and 1's and that was the story. As to Tech's defense, it's impressive that they're in you face the moment you cross midcourt. It's impressive that the collapse and strangle players in the paint with the ball. But what really is awesome is the way they can block shots coming to help from the weak side. To do that you have to have great timing and jumping ability. They had some really athletic players.
The controversy surrounding the end of the UVA/Auburn game is the story. Refs are getting tons of criticism for the call and the non-call. On the foul, it was clear to me that the kid was fouled, the Auburn player didn't have space to come down and he hit the UVA kid with his lower body while he was in the air. I don't like the whole you don't make that call in that situation rationalization. On the double dribble, I wonder how many would have caught that in real time if they were refing the game. I'll bet not very many would have made the call, but of course we're all refs who never miss calls when we get to see it in slow mo replay from various angles. More than a few think the Auburn kid fouled him before he dribbled it off his heel and that was missed as well. I'm looking forward to the Tech/UVA game, most are predicting a low scoring defensive struggle tonight. I think Tech wins, they have more athletes and I think UVA will struggle more than them getting shots. When was the last time 2 teams from the same conference won both Men's and Women's titles?
2007 was the last time 2 teams from the same conference won the Men's and Women's Nat'l Titles .. Billy Donovan's Gators and Pat Summit with the 7th of her 8 Titles with Tenn. 2004 UConn won both the Men's and Women's titles
If Tech does win tonight, I'll bet they don't burn couches like they do in East Lansing or Morgantown. But they will throw tortilla's!
Another piece of trivia....if Tech wins tonight it could be the first time ever that teams from the same conference won the NIT, and both NCAA titles.
Don't you love it when people get drunk and destroy property and film it from 100 different angles to record their crime for posterity!
Referees in the Final Four should be the best in the country. Should the best referees in the country miss an obvious infraction at half court in the last seconds.of the game. I'm all for congratulating them on the foul call but they just plain screwed up the double dribble non-call. No excuses!
Looks like foul karma caught up to Auburn. They practically tackled the UF 3 point shooter in the SEC semi-finals and no foul was called much to the complete surprise of many who were watching or saw the replays. So apparently what goes around comes around.....
Haha, yeah MCG, that's it karma waited through the whole tournament to avenge a missed call against...wait for it...Florida. That must be it.
I see that Billy Donovan's last recruit is playing tonight for Texas Tech, Brandone Francis. For awhile there I thought the first team to 10 would win. Pace has picked up that's for sure, with Tech finding it's shooting stroke.
OT!!! I do wonder why the Tech kid took a quick 3 though, seems like they could have worked for a better shot. But we go to OT
One of the more interesting final games for a while. Congratulations to Virginia. Michael wins the contest this year with his bracket, My Sensational Bracket. Congratulations to Michael and for all who participated. Any feedback on the contest or changes for next year?
Hey Don! I think one of the Big Ten Skybox members won the tourney by picking an unheralded ACC team to win it all......
