Oregon and I believe Texas planted flags in AA after their wins and no fights took place. Not condoning it but it is not an infrequent occurrence and this is the first brawl I remember. CPD did a good job quieting things down.
You see Bob, that’s the difference between you and me. I agree with you that was classless and the I think the Alabama player should have been disciplined.
No the difference is your lack of reading comprehension. I said in a previous post that I don’t condone the behavior but did not ever recall a brawl breaking out over it. I also don’t recall you commenting upon the Alabama player doing this previously. You probably were not aware of it before you jumped in here to snark at Michigan.
Yes. , I was not aware that the Alabama player did that and Wisconsin apparently displayed the requisite class. It was also done in the end zone, not on the mid field symbol. It wasn’t snark at Michigan it was noting a lack of class. I didn’t really even pay attention attention to who it was.
Michigan and Alabama players don't have the corner on stupidity. During today's ND-USC game, ND DE Riley Mills punched a USC player lying on the ground, unseen by refs who were discussing whether a TD had been scored (It was). If he had been caught, not only would there have been a penalty, he would have been ejected. Ugh!
Did anyone else hear the ref after the end of the game describe a penalty on (I think) an OSU player? I think he was penalized for pointing his thumb and forefinger at an opposing player like a gun. I heard the word "ejection" mentioned, but I don't know in what context. Not a big deal. Just curious.
Sid, I believe the penalty is called simulating the brandishing of a weapon. It was called on one of M’s players after OSU’s final play of the game. Saw it called two other times this year. I imagine flag planting might be added to the NCAA’s verboten list after today’s game.
Here is video of the start of the brawl And video of how it ended. Feel bad for the OSU staffer who is clearly trying to break up the fight and gets rewarded by being maced in the face.
Apparently at least 2 or 3 other teams tried the same thing today. Bobda said flag planting might be outlawed. At the very least that it should be fined with the fines deducted proportionately from each team member's NIL $. That should solve the problem. Hit 'em in the pocketbook.
Hard to say if fines will solve the problem, it hasn't with regards to storming the field or basketball court. Fining the perps might be a good idea though as would fining the coaching staffs.
My thought is fine the entire offending team or at least those on the NIL roles. The result should be a self-policing approach by the more intelligent team leaders. I realize it's probably too much to ask.
So in Aggieland....Coach and staff took control. COLLEGE STATION — As the Texas band in Kyle Field’s south end zone prepared to strike up “The Eyes of Texas” following the Longhorns' 17-7 win over Texas A&M on Saturday night, a cheerleader grabbed the Longhorns' massive flag and began dragging it onto the field. “Hey, we’re not planting that flag,” a Texas football staffer told the cheerleader, who assured his elder he was merely planning on waving it along to the song. After the victory song was done, Longhorns players jogged to Texas A&M’s midfield logo to continue their celebration, but Texas coach Steve Sarkisian ran after them, demanding they leave the Aggies' logo alone.
