In addition to what Terry said above, which is huge for the Astros, there are two significant revelations from last night: 1. The 5 HR in extra innings are a MLB record....not just for the WS but for all time. 2. Kenley Jansen is human. Here's an excerpt from a SI.com post-game article by Ben Reiter describing Gonzalez' at-bat vs. Jansen: It's because of moments like that - whoever are the teams and players - that I love this game.
I'll be curious to hear JO'Co thoughts on Roberts pulling Hill after 4 innings when he was dominating the Astros except for 1 pitch.
Yankee's manager Joe Girardi is out. Astros bench coach Alex Cora will take over the Red Sox. Have the Nat's said who will take Dusty Bakers place?
 Roberts pulling Hill was one of the classic mistakes of all-time. He panicked. By pulling Hill at least one inning too early, it forced him to stretch both Morrow and Jansen to go two innings each when things didn't go as planned. He replaced Hill with Stripling which didn't work either. All he had to do was stick with the same old plan, but he tried to get clever and it backfired. We were all howling here when Hill went out...
Some travel-day good news for AJ. The Cardinals have hired Mike Maddux as their pitching coach. His body of work is impressive as explained in the article below. I'm surprised the Nationals let him go. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/base...cle_3cbb67d9-1840-59ce-b6b8-2c63b320dd78.html
I thought Stripling really hurt you. He has one job and it isn't to go out there and surround the strike zone with baseballs. If he doesn't **** the bed, everything else falls to form. I don't know how anyone keeps Colberson out of the lineup at this point. The kid was the last one to be used and he cranked it halfway to the 76 station.
Not WS related, but Indians are really gonna miss Mickey Callaway. I hope he has as much success as a manager as he did as a pitching coach. Replacement Carl Willis sounds like he has great creds, though.
Cold and windy in Houston tonight....we'll have the roof close for all three games. Should be rockn' in Minute Maid tonight.
YES!! Timely hitting, great pitching and terrific defense....Astros had it all tonight. Astros up 2-1 .
Astros looking pretty good. Good story either way, Astro's first or the Dodgers first in a long time.
Big Story? Gurriel apparently did some sign with his eyes and said something in Spanish from the dougout that was considered a racial slur to Darvish. I'm not reading that Darvish saw it or anything but he got caught on camera. Of course he's apologizing and MLB will review it and see if he has to be punished.
It is no story as far as Im concerned. Stros looking good Doc. If Morton pitches like he did the last time out the Dodgers have a big problem.
Trash talking is part of the game. My HS baseball team in South Jersey had a bench jockey, a good friend of mine, who would call the opposing pitcher, likely Italian, Banana nose. He had a shrill, unavoidable voice. He received a lot of cold stares from the mound, which means it worked. I can't imagine that Gurriel's taunt was anything more than trash talk. Unfortunately, in baseball, it's heard by a lot of people vs. football, where it's said under the pile. As George said above, file it under whatever it takes to win. Unfortunately, we probably haven't heard the end of it.
 So far, this series was lost in September. We obtained Yu Darvish and failed to obtain Justin Verlander...
Beautifully pitched game by both starting pitchers. Astro's bullpen cratered in the late innings. Good win for the Dodgers 2-2 and we are back to the battle of the Ace's. Ken Giles...has been so unreliable, I dread it when he comes into the game.
Reports are out that both teams have said the baseballs are different from the baseballs they used in the regular season, say they are slicker which makes it harder to throw a slider.
