From what I'm reading it's all but official that the Big 10 will go to a conference only schedule. Games like Notre Dame/Wisconsin will be cancelled.

Don I will be shocked if all the Power 5 don't go that way. Not sure where it will leave the Irish.

OK I see that ACC commissioner has said that "if" the ACC goes conference only that Notre Dame will be in the mix. That means 6 conference games including ND/Clemson Nov 7th...assuming we make it that far before having to shut it down.

The Group of Five schools will take a huge hit from the B10’s cancellation. Ark. St. game in AA represented 23% of its revenues for the year. MAC schools will lose 10M. Most of the contracts allow for a cancellation caused by an Act of God or civil disturbance but I suspect only a few contacts specifically allow for a school to cancel without paying a penalty because of a pandemic. So, while there will be no football this year between GO5 schools and the Big 10, they will be facing off in court.

    What Bobda said.

Ohio State, other Big Ten football programs who supported MAC for years are not villains today: Buckeye Take

"MAC schools were scheduled to receive more than $10.5 million from Big Ten guarantees in 2020. What remains to be seen is whether the force majeure clause in those game contracts will allow teams like Ohio State to avoid payment altogether. The Buckeyes’ contracts, for instance, allow for the games’ cancellation without payment “for other unforeseen catastrophes or disasters beyond the control of either party.”

(Ohio State AD Gene Smith said the games could be rescheduled for the future, though presumably the payment would also wait until that future date as well.)"

Another sticky point if the season is cancelled will be what about those players who would have exhausted their eligibility this season? Will they be allowed back in 2021, when 2 freshmen classes will arrive? If so then scholarship limit of 85 won't work.

While the money is likely there in the Power 5 schools but maybe not in other schools.

With the season being shortened and maybe not even played the possibility of Spring football comes up. Personally I would be against it. If they play in the Spring then play again in the fall that's not enough time between seasons IMHO.

The pandemic has really changed the entire sports world. For many sports fans the pandemic is almost worse than the current economic disturbances.

Looks like the B12, ACC, and the SEC are going to be waiting till late July to make decisions. SEC commissioner says he is very concerned about the season.

As rabid of a sports fan as I am, I can live without the games for a season or two...but I cringe at the ADDED effect of cancelling sports to the already devastated economy...and also feel for the athletes, many of whom will miss much of their prime careers and ages to participate.

I am beginning to believe that fall sports should be cancelled in college. I am not convinced that it will be possible to keep the players safe and that teams will be hit weekly with players testing positive and almost certainly some players will become seriously ill. There will be financial consequences, but I think it is not right to risk these young peoples health just so Ath Depts can be funded.

Today is a milestone for football. Official team workouts can begin, weight training, conditioning and film review with coaches can begin.
