Are other schools doing this, also? Penn State not refunding the PSL paid by season ticket holders for the 2020 season. Penn State alumni lash out after university refuses to refund seat contributions to season ticket holders: Report
At the moment Texas is planning on having fans, I don't know how the money is going to handled. I don't know what the plan is at ND
Kind of an odd situation. Oklahoma has paused practice because their opening game was moved from August 29th to mid September. The odd thing is that Missouri State’s league (Missouri Valley Conference) has moved football to the spring but said if members wanted to play non-conference foes in the fall that was ok.
Dennis Dodds has an article up where he says 2 power 5 Ath Directors say that the season is going to be canceled. Power Five ADs: 'Inevitable' 2020 college football season will not be played this fall
Apparently the Big 10 is going to cancel fall sports and is working on the rest of the power 5 to follow suit!
WSU sent an announcement to season ticket holders could file for a refund or donate to the CAF the PURHASE PRICE of the season tickets. The required CAF donation for the opportunity to purchase those season tickets is nonrefundable, as stated in the agreement. I would be a bit irked if I were a season ticket holder.
I saw where Clemson QB, Trevor Lawrence, is trying to rally college athletes to lobby for playing this season. Clearly from what I have read the College Presidents and Ath Directors are concerned about the liability issues if players get seriously ill. I saw an article where a IU football players mom is asking for prayers for her son who tested positive for Covid at IU, he was a true freshman. College nightmare would be not players testing positive as many already have, but getting severe symptoms and even passing away. The NCAA has dictated that players can not be asked to sign waivers absolving the schools of liability, not that those waivers would have stood up in court anyway.
If they move to the Spring, will they allow "Fall Training" like they have Spring Training? They certainly couldn't have a long season, would have to still be on the conference only model as how do you start Spring football in the North in Jan?
Waivers? What a crock... I can see a school being responsible for injuries, but getting sick? Were they responsible for the flu too? This whole country is nothing but a bunch of "me!me!me!me!me!" Karens. Cancel the season, and cancel their year of scholarships too. Let them spend a year working at a car wash instead of living the life of a pampered race horse.
Pat Forde is reporting that Big 10 voted 12-2 to not play this fall. Neb and Iowa were the 2 that voted to play. Pac 12 is close to doing the same, Big 10 wants everybody to agree and make a joint announcement. They don't want to be the sole conference to cancel and see if others follow suit. SEC reportedly still wants to play. Big 12 and ACC on the fence.
If they are playing with no fans, you could schedule games in domed stadiums but only four in B10 area— Minny, Indy, and Detroit and a small domed stadium in Marquette Mi that Northern Michigan plays at. If the season starts in March, the weather is milder but grass turf fields would not hold up.
If the season is cancelled it's really going to screw up the rosters. You have these freshman coming who won't get to play and then next year you'll have more freshmen coming. You will have Seniors who would have left for the NFL after the 2020 season, likely not playing in the Spring. The loss of revenue is going to cause all sorts of minor sports to be dropped. Maybe not at Ohio State or Texas or other schools who have very deep pockets, but there are a lot of Div 1 programs that don't have deep pockets and just won't be able to afford the staff or the scholarships. This is going to change the landscape of college sports.
In case you never heard of the Yooper Dome in Marquette— the largest wooden domed stadium built to withstand UP winters of 200’’ of snow. Superior Dome - Wikipedia
Agree Terry. More than a few schools struggle financially to field a football team. Covid may result in these schools dropping the sport.
OK it's done...the Big 10 has cancelled the football season. This is according to the FREEP. Sources: Big Ten cancels football season; no games for Michigan, Michigan State in 2020
