I would agree Stu, and I think we're going to see more pitchers go down with arm problems as well.

Baseball cruises on toward the brink. Owners rejected the players offer of a 114 game season with no additional Salary cuts. They did not make a counter proposal.

MLB has made a counter offer...76 game season with salary cuts. I imagine the Union will nix that.

Baseball hovering on the brink. I wonder if the Commissioner will end up stepping in and using his power to say this is what we are doing, I've read that he would dictate a 50 game season if it comes to that.

A bit of Trivia....the first MLB draft was in 1965, White Sox needed a catcher and passed on Johnny Bench.

The first ever MLB draft was held in 1965....the draft was instituted as an equalizer...the rich teams (read Yankees) had dominated signing HS & college stars before the draft(the Yankees having won 14 of the last 16 AL pennants at that time)..

The Chicago White Sox had the 17th pick in the 1st rd.

The White Sox wanted a catcher.....Johnny Bench was available.

The Sox chose Ken Plesha C University of Notre Dame

Johnny Bench went to the Reds in the 2nd rd.

Plesha hit .186 in 4 minor league seasons

The Reds were very astute in choosing Bench. Years later in 1992 they pass on a shortstop prospect in the 5th slot of Round One. The Yankees picked 6th.....

I gave up the NBA years ago when the level of play dropped off with all the 18-19 year olds who were athletic but don't know how to play the game. I gave up the NFL three years ago when the social demonstrations started and this year promises to be an Academy Award winning display of non-football theatrics. Now baseball players argue money when there are 40 million unemployed and people are losing their businesses and homes right and left. If there is one by product to all of this ******** it is that sports is being evaluated in its proper perspective now.

Baseball just seems to be doing everything it can to screw up any chance at a season. Players want the commish to set a season so they can then file a lawsuit over it (money).

Now we have the fight over the letter on the "supposed" Yankee cheating/sign stealing. I am almost at the point where I don't really care if they play baseball this year.

Baseball isn't my favorite sport, although for a long time it was, but I do follow and watch when the Astros are good.

From The Athletic...it's about the money

The owners threatened to implement a season. The players told them to go ahead, and effectively might have called the owners’ bluff.

The risk to the owners in determining the length of the season and inviting a potential billion-dollar grievance from the players appears too great for them to plow ahead without an actual agreement.

Sources told The Athletic that the commissioner’s office is loathe to impose a season on players against their will when the Players Association likely would counter such a move by filing a claim for financial damages. The league’s goal, according to one source, remains unchanged: To negotiate a resolution that is satisfactory to both parties.

Was going to post a link to the 70 game offer by the players. Now the players and the owners are only 10 games apart, surely they can reach an agreement.

According to ESPN, MLB quickly rejected the 70 game offer from the players.

It's not the number of games it seems, it's the money.

I didn't see on CBS Sportsline that the owners rejected the 70 game offer.

How is it that instead of being happy for being paid scads of money for playing a kid's game, players care more about what owners make?

If baseball goes the "enbubble the teams" route, I do wonder why in Fla or any state with high problems. Why not out in Wyoming or N.Dakota or someplace like that. No fans anyway.
