Sumlin and Noel Mazzone (OC for UCLA) are friends, so the rumor that he's going to be the guy has been going for a few days. I don't really care who it is... anyone who can fog a mirror will be an improvement. OL has been underwhelming with Dave Christensen this year. Not sure if it's the system, or his coaching. We expected him to get another year to prove it was a fluke. But who knows...
Whoa...didn't see this coming. Texas A&M AD just quit. I wonder if there was some sort of power struggle over the football program and Sumlin won and the AD said I'm outta here.
Lots of conjecture on this but nothing of substance about why this happened now. Ive never been real fond of the guy and he had little to do with the stadium expansion contrary to what has been written in a few articles... Interesting times in central Texas. :?
Well it's rumored that TCU Co-OCoord Doug Meachem will be going to College Station as the A&M OCoord. If true that's a good hire. Also the Vols let go their DCoord and will be looking for a new guy. Might I suggest Brian Van Gorder!!
New AD already lined up for A&M. Supposed to be Scott Woodward from UW. He cut his teeth at LSU, so he's familiar with the SEC. Seems like he could be a good hire. Rumors going back and forth about Meacham becoming the Aggies OC. Also some talk of stealing their RB coach Luper who is a very good recruiter.
All good moves Scott. It is kp, Jones and he have been together at 2 other schools, but blowing 2 double digit leads to OU and UF sort of leaves a bad taste I guess.
I really haven't figured out what made Meachem so "sexy" to so many? He's competing in a league that isn't known for stiffling defense, and it's not even clear that he's the guy calling the plays. He's only been in the Co-OC chair for 3 years, so what's the big deal? Not saying it would be a bad hire, just don't see much there that causes so many to swoon. Honesty I'm just happy we have anyone but Spav. Mazzone seems like a good choice. Mazzone fits
Well I think it's because he and Cumbie transformed the offense, and resurrected the career of Boykin. Texas went after Cumbie, but Strongs tenuous position made him think he'd better stay at TCU.
Here's a weird one, Illinois just fired their HC a few days before the start of Spring Training. He took over last year as an Interim and then at the end of the season they gave him an 2year contract. But they have a new AD who fired him on his first day on the job. Very strange timing. So who will coach the team through the Spring. It's not exactly a good time to be looking for a new HC. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14907359/illinois-fighting-illini-fire-football-coach-bill-cubit
