Re: Scott Frost... Another master plan at work.....the young man gets his tenure as a headcoach.....in talent rich Florida......and then the Motherland awaits the return of the Native Son to return us to the promised land......right after Riley does it....at least once.
I was listening to Brady Hoke on XM Sports Radio the other day, he said he liked what Riley was doing at Neb and feels like you guys are on the verge even thinks you have a punchers chance in your bowl game.
AJ, I will take the chance at JIHAD happening if it pulls us from the circling white toilet bowl we have been stuck in for the last decade....I will even plant a few rows of corn in honor of his birth place....
Well Charlie Strong was stiffed by Cumbie who had previously been reported as taking the OCoord job, then the next guy up Sterlin Gilbert who was reportedly very interested in the job also stiffed them. Now the rumors are that once it was leaked how much they were going to pay Cumbie, Gilbert wanted the same or more and that became a problem. Now according to this there is a delegation in Tulsa tonight determined to hammer out a deal and bring Gilbert back to Austin and introduce him as the new OCoord. http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/texaslonghorns/2015/12/11/report-tulsa-co-oc-sterlin-gilbert-turns-texas-offensive-coordinator-job I have to say that if they don't get Gilbert to agree I have to wonder where they turn next and what will offensive recruits be thinkng, not only do they have to wonder who will be their OCoord when they show up either in Jan 2016 or Aug 2016, but they also have to wonder if Charlie will be there for 2017 and if he's not they will be playing in a whole new ball game. Not a good situation.
Too many chiefs, not enough indians. Strong made a mistake in choosing Texas, not the other way around.
The Buckeyes made a nice move hiring Greg Schiano to be their new DC. He crashed and burned in the NFL but turned a comatose Rutgers program into a solid program when he was their head coach. The guy has a strong personality so his hiring shows that Meyer is not afraid to hire a strong willed personality if he thinks the hiring will help his program. Schiano will also be a major force recruiting the East Coast. The rumor mill in Michigan is that we are trying to poach Wisconsin's DC which would be a great move. Wisky runs a frugal shop so I suspect he would make a lot more money if he moves across the pond.
Sid, The title co-defensive coordinator is a bit confusing. Looks like if Schiano was named defensive coordinator by himself, it would appear to be a demotion for Luke Fickell. (my thoughts) Luke was one of the few coaches Coach Meyer kept when he took the Ohio State job. He has a lot of respect for Fickell and he probably will be coaching the linebackers now, but still retain the title of co-defensive coordinator with Greg Schiano. Confusing, yes, but I think it will work.
Navy Coach has decided to stay at Navy rather than take the BYU job. New Texas OCoord and OL Coach are bringing the Veer'n Shoot offense to Austin. I love that new name!
I don't want to start a new topic for this, but I'm surprised no one's mentioned it. I became an admirer of A&M's spirit and tradition while attending the Cotton Bowl following the 1992 season. If the administration is doing what's purported in this article, then they will get what they deserve, and Sumlin will land on his feet in a very good head coaching job. IMO what's happened with the QB transfers is a bump in the road which will be corrected. It certainly - again IMO - doesn't warrant getting rid of the coach. https://www.seccountry.com/texas-am...r-working-to-terminate-kevin-sumlins-contract
Just the fact that the Chancellor is trying to get rid of him makes for a bad situation. If I was Sumlin, I would be looking for a new spot now.
Fran emailed his team that he was quiting on them. Of course he had a terrible year this year to go along with a bad year last year. So add Texas State to the teams looking for a HC. Oh yeah add Ball State as well as their HC stepped down so he could take a job on the Maryland staff as a ST coach. Did I mention BYU hired a coach. The DCoord from Oregon State, Kalani Sitake a former BYU player under Lavell Edwards. Something I didn't know, BYU won't hire any coach who is not an active LDS member. Does reduce the pool. He's the first Tongan to coach in FBS.
Pete Lembo, the Ball State coach, moved to Maryland as the associate/assistant head coach and ST coordinator.
So Chip Kelly is back on the market. Don't see him getting picked up by another pro franchise at this point. Let the Chip fall where it may.
  Rumors around here for weeks say Mora wants the Eagles job and Chip Kelly may wind up at UCLA...
Chip Kelly at UCLA would be very interesting. Although I'd have to wonder if Jim Mora Jr is of any interest to the NFL. It's not like he's torn up the college ranks. I do wonder though if Nick Saban will listen to the Colts or the Giants or the Eagles or even Dallas although I can't see Nick and Jerry Jones getting along. I think the most likely destination for Chip Kelly would be the Titans to tell you the truth. Of course he could sit out 2016 and see what college openings come up next year. USC, Georgia, and Miami would have been very interesting destinations as well, but too late for that.
I wonder where would Alabama look if Saban did decide to give the NFL another try, both the Colts and the Giants would be very attractive jobs it would seem, esp the Giants. Smart is gone to Georgia, and I couldn't see Lane Kiffin as the HC at Alabama. I also couldn't see Chip Kelly as the HC at Alabama. It's sort of late in the game and all the guys who might be good for the job seem to be set. But then I don't think anybody has reported Terry Saban with real estate agents in either Indy or NYC. edit: I forgot about Dabo being a Tide Alumni and former player. He'd be a natural for the job and ready to take it on at this pont...would suck for Clemson though.
