eh, pedigree is for dogs, the English and people who watch reality TV. If he's the right man for the job, it'll show.
Mark Richt to Miami. Good man, good coach. He always recruited very well at UGA and I'd expect that if there is still good talent in So.Fla that he'll start getting all those guys to stay home. I wonder if Gonzo will have him over for dinner to talk about his real estate needs! Send him some peaches Ralph, he's probably never had a Fla peach just those knarly old pits from Georgia! http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/12/02/reports-mark-richt-to-be-miamis-next-coach/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs
Good Lord I become a groupie rubbing my lucky rabbits foot and keeping up with the coaching candidates for Miami for two weeks and stop to eat dinner for a second and Terry breaks the news on Richt.... I am ecstatic about the hiring, I feel that Georgia made a mistake in letting him go to be honest. What a step up over our last two coaches and a positive move in the right direction.....MCG said it best earlier, the ACC is a much easier path to a conference championship and hopefully, hopefully the University has decided to be competitive again in the college football world... Damn good news..........Hell I'll send him a few trees or personally deliver fruit if needed, this hiring is outstanding as a Hurricane fan....
Congrats Ralph. You got not only a good coach, but from everything I know a good man to lead your program.
Thanks Scott, I agree with you that he should be a good man to lead the program...And he is an alumni to boot....
This is what earned us the title of quarterback U Pictured below with former Miami quarterbacks coach Earl Morrall are (left to right): Vinny Testaverde, Kyle Vanderwende, Jim Kelly, Mark Richt And Bernie Kosar... Earl Morall of the Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphin's fame where he quarterbacked most of the 1972 undefeated season when Bob Griese was hurt...
Those guys all look pretty young almost as if they could have been playing on the same Miami team. Never heard of Vanderwende though. Where was Torretta?
They were ON the same Miami team, that's what makes it amazing....Jim Kelly was starting and the others were redshirted except Vanderwende. Kosar got the nod to start the following year as a true freshman and Testaverde almost left the program but because Kosar turned pro after his sophomore year he stayed...I'm not really sure if Richt ever started for the Canes Toretta joined the team behind Testaverde....
If you'd've paid them a bit more they may have stayed longer than two years... Seriously great photo.
My very first job out of college was with Fruehauf Trailer and I was sent to Charlotte for a year's training. My boss there was Joe Plevel.... a running back at Miami in his college days who played with Qb Fran Curci at Miami. That was pretty cool. Good hire Ralph.... and you got someone who will enjoy the hell out of beating UF if and when he gets the chance.
I have never Googled my old boss before because I worked for him in 1977 long before the advent of Google but I found this below from the Tallahassee Democrat written in November of 1957 giving an account of a 40-14 blowout of the noles by the canes: "Then they saw Miami uncork a sweeping last-half wallop that left FSU dazed and beaten, that made them wonder if this truly was the same team that played the first two quarters. Most incredible of all was Fran Curci, the little (145) Miami sophomore quarterback who acted for all the world like he had a license to steal - yards! He personally accounted for 56 yards on 17 runs, completed six of 12 passes for 76 more and two touchdowns. But the yardage Curci forged with his last-second pitchouts is difficult to calculate. Miami rolled up 336 yards rushing, 276 of it in the last half. Four backs besides Curci gained 55 yards or more, and ace righthalf John Varone was not among them. Varone nursed his broken jaw on the sidelines, never got in the game. Joe Plevel scored three of Miami's six touchdowns on a 5-yard pass from Curci, a 3-yard plunge, a 5-yard run. Damn... the dude wasn't exaggerating and it sounds like he was pretty good. Also... Fran Curci was named first team AP All-American at Qb for the Canes in 1959.
1957, they had only been a co-ed school for 10 years..so not surprisingly that they were blown out by Miami. BTW Miami was the first college football team I ever saw play, my dad took us to the Orange Bowl. I don't really remember who it was we saw play and what year...it would have been 1955, 56,57,maybe 58. I do remember Fran Curci and there was a RB named Don Bosseler. That's all I remember.
ESPN says that Muschamp is getting an interview for the So. Carolina job...I'm pretty shocked to tell you the truth. I'll bet if they hire him it'll be with stipulations that Steve Spurrier gets to pick his OCoord and coaches.
Let's be real here..throwing magic rocks and reading tea leaves would produce a better offense than what Muschamp did in the past. It's almost a case of 'he couldn't screw it up any worse.' I'd think Muschamp would want to stay at Auburn, they're certainly paying him enough. Maybe he doesn't fit in with the staff there?
After his outbursts and lack of sportsmanship in the Iron Bowl you'd think teams would not want him on their sidelines.
I am dumbfounded that either Miles or Richt were candidates to be fired. In my opinion Miami really made out in this whole thing and have a known good coach who is an alumni while the jury is out at Georgia. I like a lot of things about Richt and think he could do very well at Miami.
I see rumors that the Browns are going to offer Urban Meyer the biggest contract ever in NFL history. I don't know why he'd want to take that job, he's a great coach, but when you move to the NFL you can't recruit! http://www.chatsports.com/cleveland-browns/a/exclusive-browns-preparing-offer-urban-meyer-biggest-coaching-contract-nfl-history-24607
