 With Charlie running a pro offense, pro-style QBs will be heading to Florida in droves the way they gravitated to Pete Carroll at USC.
You know, Charlie told Carlo Sr. more than once that the two things he disliked intensely about college football was recruiting and dealing with the boosters. Strange decision.
He may have a new deal that leaves him out of the recruiting and booster loops. Furthermore, we don't know how bad the situation was in Kansas City. Either the pay or the power wasn't there compared with whatever Muschamp was offering at Florida...
As intriguing as this move may be I just have not heard a valid reason why the Ex Notre Dame coach would leave the NFL for the same position at another college...The reasons why just don't jump out at you... :?:
Interesting, I have seen a post on ND boards that his son, Charlie Jr, will enroll at UF and will work in the football office. I wonder if besides getting out of KC, which seems to be the situation where he doesn't like working for Haley, and going someplace where he can help his son get a start in coaching. Charlie Jr used to wear headphones and hold a clipboard on the sideline at ND games, not sure what he was responsible for but he was always there.
And that used to annoy the hell outta me. Things were always chaotic on the sidelines and there was Charlie Jr with headphones and a clip board right in the middle of the mess. I always figured he was calling his buddies saying "Lookit me, I'm on TV."
My understanding is that Weis's son is graduating from High School and was going to go to the University of Texas, but when Muschamp got the Gator job he changed and is now going to the University of Florida. I don't know what the connection is between Muschamp and Weis but I am hoping that Weis does become our coordinator.
All the media says Weis will be announced on Monday. After watching the offense struggle to a mere 279 yards yesterday I am ready for a change in offensive strategy. The defense played lights out....we should have won by 30.
I think the spread is going the way of the wishbone. It takes a few years for DC's to figure it out and then the weaknesses are exposed. I think Florida will be better with a conventional offense.
You have to wonder if Charlie was in Muschamps plans for Texas when he took over for Mack, since it was clear that Charlie Jr was going to Texas before Muschamp took the job at UF. Maybe Will had Charlie penciled in as the Tex OCoord for his staff?
Terry, your first thought about Weis sounds very realistic to me. As to Urban Meyer, what he is going to do at Florida is unclear to me. I know they are building him an office, that he will assist Foley and Muschamp has said he will consult with him. I think he and his family are going to stick in Gainesville until his son graduates from High School but I cannot guarantee that. I also hear he is probably going to go to ESPN, I am not sure if full time or what but that seems to be a possibility also.
Right from the start Muschamp has said he would run a pro-style offense and I wondered just why he was so certain of that. Maybe he did have Weis in the wings....or at least had a lot of discussions with Weis about Chollie maybe moving on down to Texas when the time came.
Are you guys hearing Frank Verducci as your new OL coach? He was with Weis for 1 year at ND. He hated recruiting and I'm suprised he would be coming back to college. Of course not every coach on the staff has to be a good recruiter if they are good position coaches. I think most staffs are a blend of some really hot recruiters and guys who just barely pull their weight in recruiting.
