The Big 12 did have a tie in with the Orange Bowl for quite some time. And Bobda, you do need to keep checking the map for those distances, maybe the updated map of Michigan would help. Also I think when we check those distances we need to use as the crow flies for the Big 10 and for the Big Easy we probably need to use an old Conestoga Wagon trail from W. Virginia to Arizona. I hope this helps, if not I can give it another try.
Geez...what a great illustration....no a perfect illustration of what I have been saying for a long time now. I merely report and post links to what's hot in the national sports media and somehow it gets attributed on Skybox as an MCG topic/issue. Do you EVER watch ESPN?
Well thanks, and yes I watch ESPN but don't take their issues all that serious. They do have some good football games from time to time though.
I believe the Big 8 affiliation with the Orange bowl ended as soon as the Big 12 was formed. The first champion was in 96, and by then I believe the Bowl Coalition was shuffling things around. As I said earlier, the Aggies were the 98 champions and played in the Sugar bowl. I suspect the Fiesta tie in probably came up in 96, but has been overridden quite often (as with Texas as well as OU playing in the Rose).
Yeah now the affiliations are very loose. There is a draft order for chosing bowl participants when you lose one of your "conference champions" to the BCS game, plus of course the "draft" of the qualified at large teams.
