Don that's a great story, thank you for sharing :D Shooting a single shot anytime is never easy. Lol, then again leading by 30 feet is kinda funny. When it comes to hunting its a very special sacred thing to me as my father introduced it to me at twelve years old hunting the Everglades. And I took my son along at a much younger age, matter of fact he has slain some great wild hogs and has a great deer on the wall. As I drove up to Georgia last Thursday I stopped by Gainesville to drop off some venison at his apartment to hold him over.

I've never hunted wild pheasant because they are not native in our area but would love to one day as its on my bucket list. Quail, dove, ducks and snipe are common around here. I got three deer in Georgia and will grind all three into burger myself with a little beef fat mixed in. With the price of beef at an all time high venison is a great healthy alternative.

Okay back to sports.....Those lousy refs.....Hey at least FSU seems to have taken the mantle of most hated team away from Miami... :D

OK so here we go again, why did Don not have anything left to take home to supper? The dog wouldn't give it back and ate it?

I wanted to beat Devin Gardner when we played them, he beat us in 2013 and was spectacular in that game. I have however never read anything negative about him as a player/student...unlike a certain QB in Tallahassee.

He is also not the only player in college I'm sure who gets abused by fans on Social Media, talk shows, etc. It's a shame, it really is.

Terry, I'm not a hunter and not familiar with guns, but I'm guessing that shooting a pheasant at 30 feet (the length of a 1st down) with a 20 gauge shotgun would blow the bird into tiny bits.

Sid I wouldn't think so. Have shot a few pheasants with a 12 gauge (Don't own anything smaller 'cause they are mostly trap/sporting clays guns).

30 feet would maybe be a bit dicey for a 12, but I wouldn't think a 20 would demolish the bird...might have to pick a little birdshot out of it but you gotta do that anyway.

    Maybe Don could elaborate.

Tried sporting clays once with a .410...now that was a challenge.

    We still talking football?? :)

Sid nailed it. My father taught me to be a marksman by giving me a single shot ,22LR rifle to squirrel hunt while he carried a Remington 1100 semi auto 12 gauge. I shot dove with a single shot .410 shotgun while he carried the 1100. :?

Very nice article on Devin Gardner, obviously a high character young man. I'm now a Devin Gardner fan. Hear that, Bobda?

Stu, thanks. I just learned something I didn't know about shotguns. I thought a 20 gauge would be more powerful than a 12 gauge because of the higher number. Not so. Looks like AJ has the answer. He missed.

    Don?

I have that same gun. Passed down from my grandfather who bought it in 1904.

    George,

Last I had it apprasied, the gun guy said 2-2500 for a shotgun he paid $36 for. If he hadn't had it blued, and if in pristine condition 6-8k. Mostly because of the nickel steel.

I haven't been able to hunt any bush birds since leaving the midwest. The only hunting I've done here is wild boar and that's with a cross bow. This baby thing has put a real cramp in my bow hunting this year. So yeah, I'm bitter...

Bobda, that's a nifty looking family there ;)

I have $500 in Ben Franklins to give away for somebody's old nasty Winchester if you happen to get tired dusting it.... :)

Corey we will have to work on catching up to hunt together, I have those old nasty hogs, deer and a few quail and dove or alligator if that catches your attention....

Side note on alligators: current market price for gator eggs is $40 each with some nest holding up to 35-50 eggs. You have not had an adrenaline rush until you are on a gator nest digging out eggs and watching for mom to rip up the bank to tear you a new ass....

    This is a fun "topic"!

My brother has a Win Model 12 that was my grandfather's...
Last I heard, he wasn't selling it for ANYTHING.
    :)

My Mom-in-Law leased her land, so my pig hunting is on hold.
    :x
I'm too lazy to do it right like Corey, I'd rather take out the whole group with my AK or AR.
Mytoys have done nothing but blast rubber targets so far, and they are getting impatient!
    I need some bacon!

Oh that would be fun (with the AK) as well. Things are a bit more strict here since we don't have the same problem that Texas has with them.. at least not yet. Besides, we don't need a bunch of Bama fans running wild with AKs, legally, during football season.. the Tide just haven't been consistent enough for that this year.

Yeah, we have a few too many.
Basically we are encouraged to take out as many as we can, any way we want.

Skybox members: A 20 gauge is not as powerful as a 12 gauge gun, the bird was literally shot to pieces and we just left it in the field.

I have not hunted for years, too dangerous out there anymore for me.

OK so I have to ask, why would you hunt with a gun that destroyed the bird...isn't that the point to bring home something tasty? :?: :?:
