Games, besides ND, I'm really interested in this weekend. Clemson/Pitt Clemson has not played well on offense but their defense has played very well and kept them in the game! Pitt's Kenny Pickett is having a great season and Pitt is thought to have a good shot at winning the ACC title, but now he's facing that Clemson defense.

Another one is Wake Forrest vs Army at West Point. Wake another ACC team that is having a great season so far, but they haven't played a service academy triple option. Army is good at that, they lost to Wisconsin who has a great defense at Madison. I'm not sure Wake has a great defense, they have been great on offense. But if they let Army have those 16 play clock eating drives they don't get their usual number of possessions. I've seen this story before when Navy was really rocking and the Irish struggled to beat them because Navy just hogged the ball.

Last but not least is Wisconsin at Purdue. Wisconsin continues to be terrible on offense, and Purdue's defense is pretty good, stunning Iowa on the road last weekend. Wisconsin does play excellent defense. Purdue after upsetting Iowa on the road, is the underdog to Wisconsin at West Lafayette. I don't quite understand that at all. Boilermakers are playing multiple QB's successfully, Iowa was supposedly the best defense in the Big 10, didn't matter Purdue owned them. I don't expect Wisconsin to score much against Purdue, but can Purdue produce another big offensive weekend against the Wisconsin defense?

Don that Coastal Carolina QB is getting some love from Ivan Mansel

Grayson McCall simply fun to watch
My takeaway from an entertaining Appalachian State-Coastal Carolina game Wednesday night is that Chanticleers quarterback Grayson McCall, on top of having mad skills, is just plain fun to watch. The quick release, the accuracy, the ability to move away from pressure — the redshirt sophomore continues to embarrass all those schools that passed him up coming out of Indian Trail (N.C.) Porter Ridge, in the Charlotte suburbs. You wonder if it’s occurred to McCall that the Power 5 is just a transfer portal away. There’s no question that a bunch of offensive analysts charged with scouting other teams have thought about it. I hope McCall keeps making Coastal coach Jamey Chadwell look smart.

    AAC back to full strength!

Six schools -- Florida Atlantic, Charlotte, North Texas, UTSA, Rice and UAB -- have accepted invitations to join the American Athletic Conference, the league announced Thursday.

No date has been set for the schools to join the conference, but a source told ESPN that the earliest they could join would be the 2023-24 season.

Once all the announced realignment shuffles out, the additions would give the American 14 teams in football and basketball.

Six schools accept invitations to join American.

Bill what is the status of the Gators QB's? Have you guys gone to the 2 QB system, or is Richardson slowly winning the job from Emory Jones?

I'm sure Bob appreciates the copious amounts of salt you guys have provided for that old wound.

Re Wake and Army, Clawson has been at Wake since 2014. He must have played Ga. Tech when Johnson was there. Didn't he run that triple option at GT? It's a challenge for the players but the coaches have seen it before I'm sure.
Re the M mud stomping, those of us in the conspiracy theory camp think M lost to Appy St. just to get us overconfident.....and it worked.

Scot, what is worse is that he is using rock salt rather than just table salt to keep the wound open.

All true, but the current Wake players, at least most of them, have never seen the option. You know how ND players and coaches having seen Navy every year, still struggled with it. It requires discipline and attention to your assigned task. Army took OU to OT a couple of years ago at Norman. Navy had Ohio State on the ropes in Columbus a few years ago.

Wake likely has their hands full at West Point.

I wonder if the CUSA will survive? Besides the 6 teams leaving for the AAC, there are reports that So. Mississippi is leaving for the Sun Belt. Old Dominion and Marshall are also considering jumping to the Sun Belt.

Sooners have woken up. Two quick strike drives for TD give them a 21-17 lead.

Illinois just beat PSU 20-18 in the 9th overtime! Under the new OT rules, after the 2nd OT, teams attempt 2pt. conversations until a team wins.
