I watched #2 go down twice last night... It was in replay in the middle of the night and I woke up to see the last few minutes. As for the favorite MM movie, for me it was Dazed and Confused. That was filmed on location in Austin. I give Dazed and Confused cruises to see the different sights where the movie was filmed.
I did watch most of the Univ of Houston vs Central Fla game. UofH lost when their backup qb dove for the pylon at the end of the game and lost control of the ball before it crossed the plane of the goal. If he scored UH wins, instead they lost and I'm sure the kid was crushed. The whole leaping for the goal line and stretching out the ball is one of those things that is so great when your guy can hold on, but also one of those arrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggh moments when he can't control the ball and loses possession. If he hadn't stretched out he'd have probably had 1st down at the 1 yd with enough time and time outs to proably take 4 shots at the endzone.
Rule 9, Section 2, Article 1, a.1.h: http://www.dfoa.com/attachments/article/69/2013-14_Football_Rule_Book.pdf Of course, he had to draw even more attention to himself by running almost to midfield to take a bow.
Ouch.... ouch... OUCH!! ... says Michigan and it's beleagured program. I read this on CBS Sportsline: "It would officially be the worst week in recent Michigan history except the week isn't over yet. The Wolverines still have to play Rutgers on Saturday." The reference is of course to the fact that Rich Rod has coached Zona to an unbeaten record and last night's win at #2 while UM gets ready for a coaching fire and hire. Hmmmmm..... maybe a little patience is called for in Gainesville. Only diff though that RR was a proven winner at W Va. before his failed stint at Michigan.
As far as RR and Michigan, the whole "Michigan Man" aside he and his style of play just really were not a good fit for UM.
Doc, Oregon had just stopped AZ and forced a 4th down while they were in the redzone....then the Oregon player decided to do a Curtsy at midfield and make a production out of it....they flagged him and gave AZ another 1st down in the rezone which they scored on.
Wow! What an idiot! Having said that, I did not watch the game, so I don't know when it happened. If AZ had 4th down in the red zone late in the game, they likely would have kicked a field goal, making the winning margin 3 instead of 7. If it happened earlier in the game and AZ kicked a FG, it's hard to say that the game would have played out the same way. Whatever, the kid has to live with the fact that he may have cost Oregon a shot at the championship game.....if Oregon doesn't lose another game, which seems unlikely.
T - I've been reading a lot of crap from Oregon fans that the dude should not have been called for excessive celebration last night. If you missed it: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/10/3/6897473/oregon-vs-arizona-bow-penalty Oregon had stopped Arizona on a 3rd and goal, but the penalty gave Arizona a fresh set of downs, which they converted.
Sid, it was with about 5 minutes left in the game, tied at 24. Oregon had just sacked the QB to force 4th down at about the 20. Not a hard FG to make, but it would have been about a 35 yarder. On the next possession, Oregon coughed up the ball which then allowed Arizona to run out the clock.
Thanks, Kes. You are correct that the FG would not be a sure thing. Who knows? The fact that O could not score after that with about 5 minutes left says that the kid's penalty probably did not determine the outcome. Still, it wasn't smart, says Captain Obvious. I believe the celebration penalty has been around for at least 20 years. You would think that it would be an integral part of every program to drill it into the kids' heads that they can't attract attention to themselves. Maybe the O coaches did that but the kid wasn't listening.
Sid, they can't get that celebration penalty right, they just can't resist being able to make a spectacle out themselves. Last week in our game with the Bills, Texans Wr makes a TD catch and then goes to the ground to do the "dead" fish. It's against the rules, O'Brien was furious that he did it and cost his team 15 yds...we still won but it can cost the team. If I were a coach I'd surely be tempted to kick a kid who does stuff like that off the team. I'd have a team meeting show them all the stuff they can't do and tell them if they don't see it on here and think they have the system beat tell them to think again. Tell them that if any player gets a penalty for showboating they sit the rest of the game at min, probably too much for coaches though because sitting a kid might also cause you to lose a game.
So if he had not run from the line of scrimmage (the 8 yd line?), to midfield and run around the midfield insignia and then bowing, he would not have been penalized? This is not putting up a phone to his ear or Tebowing in the endzone. He crossed the line I think :?
kp, were you responding to me? I meant it was stupid for the kid to do it in the first place, and then doubly stupid because that particular act is SPELLED out as a no-no. Definitely needed to be called.
Scott, No not responding to you in particular. I don't like this rule in general, because a simple move by a scoring player should not change the outcome of the game. On the other hand running halfway down the field and grandstanding may be penalty worthy. 8)
Wow....Big Game Bob and OU go down, Alabama Goes down, Oregon has already gone down, and Texas A&M goes down. Top 10 is going to really look different on Monday.
Dang...I thought Wisconsin would cruise over the Mildcats, what the hell happened to their running game. While Texas lost, and it wasn't really close...the Bears didn't run over us. In fact Swoopes passed for more yards than Bryce Petty...threw 2 picks while Petty threw 2 TD's. But the Bears are over rated it appears.
