Auburn /Georgia must have turned into a defensive battle in the 2nd half. UGA lead 24-0 at half and I see it's 27-6 late in the 4th. Iowa State /OU has been a very competitive game. OU finally forced a turnover and is now leading 30 - 23 late in the 4th but ISU just ran a KO to the OU 12
Air Raid goes down to Arkansas, pretty surprising to me. Arkansas not very good, I thought Leach would eat them up
37 - 30 Iowa State in the lead, great drive, Purdy with a couple of great throws but the ISU running game was the difference on this drive.
Pick in the end zone by ISU, ball game. OU had won 24 straight times at Ames! Missed holding call aided ISU, but that's the way B12 refing has gone today.. It's sucked
I think Leach will beat some very good teams because there is always the potential to score a lot of points but defense still wins championships and that isn't usually the strong point of his teams.
Stewart Mandel's thoughts on the SEC. 2. Speaking of the Tide … Shortly after Alabama QB Mac Jones hit Jaylen Waddle for an 87-yard touchdown pass Saturday, longtime CBS analyst Gary Danielson said of the SEC, “It sure has changed in the last three years, hasn’t it? It is a passing league now.” Which certainly made sense at the time, with Mississippi State still 1-0 and Tua’s underappreciated successor in the midst of a 435-yard, four-TD outing in the Tide’s 52-24 rout of Texas A&M. 3. But then, Saturday night, Georgia went out and put an old-school mauling on top-10 foe Auburn, rushing 45 times for 202 yards in a 27-6 rout. And Arkansas took the Air out of the Air Raid. So, I don’t know that it’s a full-on passing league, per se, but you do need a solid QB to win the league. Alabama (Jones) and Florida (Kyle Trask) definitely have them. Does Georgia now, too? Through six-plus quarters, the improbable Stetson Bennett has completed 65 percent of his passes for 651 yards, three TDs and no picks. That’ll do with that defense.
Miss State turned the ball over twice in the Red Zone in the last 5 minutes of play. I still think Leach will do well at Miss State.
In honor of the message TT fans gave Wazzu fans when Leach came to the Palouse, I pay the message forward to MsSU fans: You will impossibly beat teams nobody dreams you could beat. You will lose to teams that wouldn't beat a high school team. You will rejoice in the highs, and lose your voice screaming in the lows. And it will never be boring. One thing TT was wrong about; it wasn't possible to induce Wazzu fans to drink more.
I do remember Leach had a problem losing early non-conf games against teams like Eastern Washington and then later beating teams like Stanford or USC, or other Pac12 powers.
With all the lows over the years, the one thing die hard Cougs could say is they had never lost to an FCS team. Whelp, Leach gifted the end of that pride to the Coug faithful. Twice. In two years. Other than going 0-2 against those powerhouse FCS teams (PORTLAND EFFING STATE and EWU)? 17-7. The year before that loss of innocence, Wazzu had an abysmal year, 3-9, losing to RUTGERS. Even that year was up side in comparison because they beat PORTLAND EFFING STATE 59-21 while going 2-9 otherwise. Now, off to find a bottle that's not empty.
Bill... define "success". Leach will win some games, but his offense has been around long enough it's not a surprise anymore. I think is QB had the game of his life against L$U (who is fielding an entirely new team) and combined with turnovers, managed a crazy win. He'll never have enough defense to win the west, much less the conference.
