Today, Alabama plays Ole Miss and this game SHOULD not be a problem, but we need to establish a running game (100+ yds in the first half) and stop the short over the middle passing game. Another middle of the day game and the forecast is 98 degrees and no rain.
Either things are hotter this year, or more has been made of playing day games. As for the Pac12, I think Terry's prediction is a safe one. There's no 1-5 teams in there, but there's a whole bunch of teams that could beat anyone on a given day. Some of them are really good, some are just fair. There's very few bad teams. It's sort of like the anti-ACC.
Corey, yeah it has been really hot and we have not had a night game that was outside yet. I think all of them have been played in the 90's also.
kp... that's the curse of being top 5. You get the coveted (by the networks) afternoon slot rather than evening. It's just September. It's ALWAYS hot. We usually don't get a break until the end of the month, or even into October.
I see what you're saying. They play football in Arizona too. You could have late start times, but I guess they are letting the networks dictate to them the start time? I'm not totally privy to the ins-and-outs of SEC game time decision making, nor do I pretend to have such information. It just seems like to me that if you wanted to play later, you could. It's not like their first few opponents have been the "SEC game of the week" or anything like that.
The TV contracts give all of the start time power to the networks. It's why you don't get the start time til the week before. They have to figure out who will get the most eyeballs for each slot.
Well, just a sampling Texas A&M 2 night games out of 5 UGA 2 night games out of 4 Clemson 2 night games out of 5 OSU 1 night game out.of 5 LSU 3 night games out 4 Oklahoma 3 night games out of 4 Alabama 0 night games out of 5 (one game in a dome) It's not a big deal but it has been a very hot September.
Hot in Alabama, you have to be kidding? 90 degrees day here this late in September is most unusual. Just wanted to poke a little fun at You!
Don, in Montgomery we are.having record setting highs (high 90's) forecast for every day for the next 5 days. It's funny, I took my sisters to the NMSU game a few weeks ago. I told them it was going to be hot. My sister who lives in Houston (actually League City) scoffed and said she was used to "hot". It was 97 degrees that day in Tuscaloosa. She asked me to take her home at halftime because of the heat. I never leave an Alabama game early but I was worried for her health so we left. It was a 3 pm kick-off.
Speaking of the heat, Arkansas and Texas A&M came down to the wire. The no call on the PI that should have been called against A&M would've sent Ole Miss' AD into post-game meltdown mode. I guess that only happens when it's a non-con game But seriously, that game was way more exciting than I thought it would be. I just wanted to see Scott's Aggies and I wound up getting a game out of it.
So... the good news for me: I had to go to some contract stuff for work, and missed almost all of the game. For whatever reason, Arkansas always plays well against us. BUT... we got the W. If there was PI that wasn't called... I'll take the make-ups for last weeks muggings at the hands of the Auburn defensive backfield.
Alabama running game better but needs more work. Defense needs a lot more work. Our wide receivers are maybe the best in the country and Tagavolua is very, very good
I'm surprised that Tua was still in the game throwing deep with 52 points on the board and 7 minutes left in the game. He's everything to that offense and I think they'd take better care of him.
Almost all of the early evening games are horrible blowouts. The only competitive games I've found are SCAR and Kentucky with the Cocks up 10-0 and NC State-FSU (with FSU leading 10-6).
Corey, Buckeyes are struggling, but I think we will be OK! That Clemson NC game was a close one. The Tigers did not look that sharp today?
