His last 19 road games  that is amazingly good and shows his caliber of coaching...

Week 3 was more evidence of how ludicrous the polls are early on.

#2 FSU is destroyed, shouldn't have been that high.

#9 Wiscy barely escapes an FCS in last minute... again too high.

#11 texas... (Hard for me to type that since any sane person knew that wasn't the 11th best team in the land) gives up 50 in a loss and has given up 97 in three games!

    #13 Iowa... nuff said

#25 Miami They look better than 25 to me... you're welcome Ralph! :)

This past weekend was another excellent game day. Plenty of excitement, upsets, great games.

    1. Alabama and Ole Miss, that was a great game to watch, big plays, Ole Miss blew a big lead again, and then when it looked like Alabama was going to Steam roll them Ole Miss kept is respectable at the end.

    2. I didn't see the Ohio State/OU game but from what I read the Buckeyes are fast going from young inexperienced to title contender. A credit to Urban Meyer's coaching and program building/recruiting. A lot of guys left but their replacements have been well coached and ready to step in and play.

    3. Texas..I really was sort of shocked that we lost this game. CAL really didn't look that good and we have a freshman phenom at QB and a couple of RB's who are 240 and fast, good WR's. Mailk Jefferson at LB, and in general I thought we'd win. But we lost in a shoot out. I can't put this on the freshman QB, the offense put up plenty of points, but the defense let us down. Still I think we'll have an excellent season and can win 9 or 10 games and I think we can beat Oklahoma and win the B12 championship. I do think Strong is on the right track, this is a very young but talented team and young teams have some ups and downs.

    4. A&M, excellent road win for the Aggies, I'm still not convinced that Trevor Knight isn't going to hurt you though, he's only a 50% passer and in college that is terrible. But defense will cover some of that up and it appears that A&M has found some running game, that helps as well.

    5. Gators, another win, not a great opponent but 3-0 is 3-0. Going on the road to Tenn is the season in some ways. Lose and they will need help to win the SEC East.

    7. Michigan continues to look good, let Colorado get out to a lead then woke up and smashed them.

    8. Michigan State...very solid against the Irish. The new QB was excellent, their OL was excellent, the Defense was excellent till they went to the prevent and then they couldn't get it back. But a typical well coached, tough Dantonio team.

    9. FSU got destroyed. I didn't see that coming, I don't think FSU is that much worse than Louisville, but once it got going the wrong direction FSU just couldn't stop it. Louisville has Clemson coming up, that should be quite a game. That Louisville QB is the real deal and Bobby Petrino is still a dick, he had Jackson in the game late and was trying to run up the score I'd have hated to see Jackson injured late in the game when he should have been on the bench.

    10. I'm glad Kes delivered on his promise that WSU would beat Idaho easily!! :) I did also note that the AD and the Pres of Wash State met with the Police Chief to express concerns on how athletes are treated.

    11. Neb is 3-0 and looking very good and maybe this is the year they make it to the B1G title game.

    12. Upsets or near upsets....Iowa did get upset and Whisky probably should have gotten upset by FCS schools.

    13. Stanford, methodically took apart USC. They look like they will be the Pac12 champs, only Washington looks like they could challenge them.

All in all a lot of great games, and as always some fan bases who came to work today buoyed by their teams performance and some who came to work plotting how to get rid of their coach!

As far as the polls go, I don't know what people expect. As I said before if when they came up with the Harris Poll which didn't come out till Oct, there was no difference between it and the AP/Coaches polls. And I'll bet, even though I haven't researched it, that if you look at the first poll in Oct and the the 1st poll in Nov, you will see lots of changes that would make some of you think we shouldn't have a poll till Nov so then there would be no errors or over ranked/under ranked teams.

I know I wouldn't want to do away with the pre-season and Sept polls. They are what they are, just guesses and opinions. But that's what they are in Nov as well.

I always enjoy your synopsis T, even when I don't respond. Thank you.

Another weekend of bad officiating, and again it wasn't limited to the games in which I had a rooting interest. This week, very few of the poor calls/non-calls had much to impact the final outcome, and I don't think any changed who the winner would have been a la CMU/OSU last weekend. Is the college game that fast that this is just the way it is? It's hard to believe that this is as good as the officiating can get.
For the most part, I'm going to continue to bite my tongue on this, as I have for the past several years. What I will say is this. In a brawl that included a handful of football players plus another two dozen or so other people, it is astonishing that the only people arrested and charged were football players. Leach is handling discipline appropriately as facts come out (Barber already expelled, though he is appealing) but it's only fair that everyone is held to the same standard.

Kes...it seems to happen all over the country. Fight's involving football players almost always seem to me to result in only the football players being arrested. I did see that the Pullman police did eventually charge some non-football players in that fight though.

Didn't realize the Ducks went for 2 after each of their 5 touchdowns, making only 1 of them. Helfrich not backing down, says it's how they roll. Had they gone for 1 each time, they'd have ended up in OT with the Huskers.

    Terry,
Its funny, these things have been reduced to probabilities and all the coach needs to look at is table that tells him whether to go for one or two. The guy that ignores that is the type of guy that funds the building boom on the Vegas strip.

Kp, that bit of information is disturbing to me. I thought these high paid coaches were making intelligent split decisions?

Don, yeah they probably paid some math major to figure out all of the odds and gave that information to a computer science major to come up with an easy to read table so that all the head coach had to do is look up the scoring margin and hold up one finger or two.

That would have been a tough decision. Go for the win or loss in regulation or go to OT. If you go for it and make it...HERO. If you go for it and don't make it...ZERO.

AJ, those situations are a little different. How good is your kicker? Have you been able to move the ball on offense? If you have a good kicker and you have been moving the ball go for the overtime. If the extra point is not automatic or if you have had trouble on offense you may want to go for the 2 yards and the 2 points. 8)
