USC and Stanford: That game is almost always ugly and it's just blind hatred. Sid isn't wrong that it was a sloppy game. It almost always is, but it's still fun because the 2 private schools in the P12 don't like each other at all. The Hadan thing was just stupid, but it's USC and I pretty much expect that stuff.

How the hell do 2 football rich powers like Ohio State and Texas only have one QB despite all their incredible recruiting?!? I know OSU fans will point to the OL, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the QB is almost no threat to throw at all.. You have to have better than that at Ohio State.

    Terry,

We all look the same! 8)
The wife accompanied me to the opener this year, so I left at the start of the 4th quarter.
Getting home at 2:30am is bad enough... didn't want to push it to 3:30 by staying for the whole game.

"walked down the ramp after the game"

One of the hardest things to do after that injury so glad to hear you are healing it.

    Gip,

Point taken. Still, we have to go out and get those kids. OSU and Texas are the state schools in football talent rich states. You'd think they would have a QB in every other class, at least. I don't mean to over simplify it, but they do literally have kids who grow up wanting nothing more than to play for them and they don't have that pesky admissions board to contend with either.

I liken us to a Tennessee, for example. They have a great tradition of their own. However, they don't have the depth of in-state talent each year just walking in the door like Texas or Ohio State does. They have to go get those kids in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi, North Carolina etc.

There's some places that, at least in my perception, there's just no excuse and those are 2 of them.

    Corey,
Buckeyes have three QBs in addition to Braxton Miller. Unfortunately; none with any college game experience.

Hokies made Barrett look bad I admit, but he was running for his life most of the game. We will probably throw more this year than last, with the loss of Carlos Hyde, we have no real rushing game at this point.

Carlos Hyde looked pretty good yesterday in his NFL debut.

QB is a very tough position for colleges. They transfer at the drop of a hat rather than stay and build depth, and coaches are loathe to play the backup in many instances. I think that in Colt McCoy's Sr. year when we should have been getting Garret Gilbert into game situations Mack was playing Colt to keep his stats up for the Heisman campaign. Came back to bite us.

The problem at Texas is easy to diagnose:
They recruit all good QB's as safeties (Manziel) and all good safeties as QB's (Swoops).

    Works for me.
A&M hasn't had a lot of trouble finding QB's hanging around the state...
    :D

    I agree with Terry.

Right now Florida has three Qbs counting Driskel that are starting in FBS college footbal.

Jacoby Brissett for N.C. State and Tyler Murphy for Boston College are the two others who have taken meaningful snaps behind center at Florida.

Urban Meyer once had Cam Newton in the fold but ran him off in the name of discipline when he knew the kid wouldn't supplant Tebow and then John Brantley ahead of him.

Scott, yes our QB recruiting since Vince Young has been one big miss after another. But even you have to admit that when you guys signed Johnny Football you didn't really know what you had. Sort of like when we signed Colt McCoy, I complained that what were we doing signing a lightly recruited 3 star QB.

And you have to admit that if Mike Sherman had been the coach in 2012 Johnny Football likely wouldn't have happened. I give Sumlin a lot of credit, he knows how to get a QB and the offense on the same page. He did it at UH and even you had to wonder about what he was going to do this year based on what you saw of Kenny Hill last year. I just wonder where Allen is going to transfer to after Kyler Murray arrives on campus! :)

I'd agree that it's very likely Sherman would not have played Manziel right away, but then we did have other QB options at that time as well.

Just shows you how Sumlin is willing to adjust his his system to what the QB can do.
