The polls were bound to show some serious movements after the first week. Texas A&M really moved up to #9. I guess that proves the Buckeyes are better than A&M? We will see after they lose to Lamar? On a more serious note, I am finding it much more difficult to make the picks and corresponding points to the teams this week?
Big Article on Kenny "Thrill" Hill in today's Houston Chronicle. Aggies have Lamar, Rice and SMU coming up so they should get to 4-0 and put up some really big numbers. Also surprisingly Vegas still has Texas favored over BYU. The BYU QB completely dominated the Texas defense last year and he's back and he's better, the UT QB is well...really athletic. If we were to have a decathalon our QB would beat their QB, but it's a football game.
8) re: OSU-VaTech This game will tell us a lot. re: Michigan I hope we never play them again. re: USC-Stanford There's some real hatred here that most of the country doesn't know about. I've known players from both teams. re: Oregon-MSU This is the Game of the Day. Both teams THINK they're going to the playoffs. Someone is going to be VERY disappointed after this one.
Wow... Charlie Strong has suspended his starting offensive tackles for the BYU game. No QB, no center, no tackles... I sure hope that defense can score. ;-)
I wonder what the hell those guys did, the one (Harrison) was suspended for the N.Texas game and just reinstated on Monday...only to be suspended again on Wed. What the?? I guess I can say I'm glad that Strong is maintaining his stance on team discipline. If you are going that route then you have to do it from day 1 and be consistent. I hope it pays off down the road with a focused and diciplined team.
Naturally Longhorn fans are now wondering if we'll win another game this season. This tweet from Bomani Jones says a lot. @bomani_jones - strong's only job this year is to wash all the mack brown off the program. he's clearly doing it with a power washer. I'll say one thing, sometimes guys stay too long and burn up all the good capital that they earned. I remember Jeff Bagwell being one of the most popular Astro's ever, then he stayed too long mainly for $$$ reasons and now nobody talks about him. Mack Brown could have retired after the 2009 Championship game loss to Alabama (which he would have won if Alabama hadn't taken out his QB in the 1st half) and he'd have been a revered former coach maybe not quite as much as Daryl Royal but close. Now most are glad he's gone and blame current problems on him and his recruiting/coaching.
I see that Idaho got their game check and won't be returning to Gainesville for a reschedule. I don't blame them, unless the Gators wanted to give them another check why bother and for the Gators I'm sure that paying twice to play them once wasn't really an attractive offer either. I don't think it makes much difference with one exception if the Gators stumble to 5-6 and miss a bowl because they don't have that 6th win. Of course if they stumble to 5-6 I don't think it matters as they'll be changing coaches so that's always an awkward situation for a new coach who'd rather be putting together a new staff and getting out on the recruiting trail rather than trying to get a team he didn't build or coach through a bowl game.
5-6 or 6-5 doesn't matter for Muschamp..... gone either way. Now 7-4 and in the Gator Bowl.... or 8-4 and in the Outback..... hmmmm that could be a game changer there. But if in those 4 losses are big losses to Georgia and FSU then he might be gone anyway. Three losses and I don't see him going anywhere and I see UF in the Outback at 8-3. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/dennis-dodd/24693400/idaho-florida-off-but-does-muschamp-need-a-12th-game
Been dealing with a torn hamstring that is affecting my getting around and ruining my bowling game. In fact it ends bowling for about a month. Anyhow we are headed for Florida tomorrow afternoon for a week to catch two Gator games. Fortunately I got an elevator pass to go to our seats in the top of the stadium. Good games this week but I probably won't catch any of them as we head to Gainesville and the Swamp. Our Grandson being in the band makes it that much better. Good luck to all this weekend. Oh George, pretty good about Jolly Charlie. I have to say that Gators are pretty happy he is at Kansas.
See.... I told you it was all about the injured Texas QB.... Bill..... sorry to hear about the hammy. Having ruptured as you know both of my quad tendons in the past 7 years I am always cognizant of my gimpy leg muscles. I just bought a condo back in July that is located 60 yards off the Pinellas Trail so last weekend I bought a bike.... and was able to bike without hurting those quads. Good luck with that hamstring and please be careful.
I can not believe the number of penalties, by both teams, in the Stanford USC game, Cardinals up by 3 at the half, but the USC defense is pretty impressive.
