The last numbers I heard about Saban to Austin were $12 million a year, and 1% of the LHN. Good lord, that kind of money would smack of serious desperation. I'm with Kyle, I don't think he's going, but you never say never. BTW kp... STOP MENTIONING THAT DOUCHE BAG!! It just sends me into a blind rage whenever I think of that Little Debbie eating scumsucker! :x
You know kp I'm with you, I can't understand how this whole Saban hysteria has gone so far inspite of the logic against it. I mean he has built a machine at Alabama, they just opened new facilities that are fabulous, the stadium is top shelf, the recruiting is #1 in the country right now...boo hoo he's not likely to win his 3rd straight BCS championship that's hardly a reason to leave. He's being paid an obscene amount of money. As far as being the 1st coach to win a title at 3 different schools, I don't see that as much of an attraction. I mean whether he wins another one or not he's one of the top coaches ever to coach. Sure at Texas he'll make more money, he'll (if you believe MCG) have an easier schedule and it'll be easier recruiting as Texas has so many great players and most want to play at the Univ of Texas no matter what Scott says, esp if they are good. All we have to do is look at Macks success at recruiting. Even A&M being successful in the SEC hasn't really killed the Longhorns in recruiting. Even with the turmoil surrounding Texas we are still ranked #10 in Rivals and A&M with all their advantages and euphoria is #5. Put Saban at Texas and that will be reversed pretty quickly. I'll be shocked if it happens. What I wonder is who is plan B for us. Talk is about getting one of the Harbaugh boys to Austin or maybe Pete Carrol, some sentiment for Les Miles and Jimbo Fisher as well. Those are all realistic goals.
Scott - I guess you're sad that Texas St. finished the season on a three game losing streak? And don't even try to tell me you don't follow them.
Terry, I am reading that Brown is coming back. I highly doubt that but have you heard anything like that?
LOL...that will send Texas fans into a frenzy!! But from what I've read Mack truly would like to come back but the Big Cigars want him out. Beat Baylor and OU beat OSU and he'll be going to the Fiesta Bowl...I"m sure he feels like that is a good enough season to bring him back. Who knows.
I see that LSU QB Zach Mettenberger tore his ACL in the Arkansas game and will miss the bowl game. His back up and the anticipated starter next year will step in for LSU. This is in some ways a good break for LSU and a bad break for the kid. The bowl game is of little importance to LSU this season, but getting this kid all the reps and a full game under his belt as the starter is huge for LSU going into next year. With Mettenberger being a Sr and having a good NFL draft situation Miles would have had to play him and the kid doesn't get in unless it becomes a blowout for LSU. Now the kid gets valuable reps and playing time, the Sr. gets surgery and maybe less money.
I just read the chat transcript from InsideTexas...it's public on this site now. Jist of it is Saban deal has been done for 8 weeks, he'll be bringing some recruits with him and he will not coach the Alabama Bowl game. Saban To Texas I'll still believe it when it happens.
There would be so many breach of contract issues if all that were true. I'm not saying it is or isn't, but that Saban would be the largest piece of **** in the entire world if half that were true. He would actually upgrade the definition of what a "Franchione" is and would easily make Texas the most hated team in the country. Outkickthecoverage has posted a lot of crazy ****, including the article you guys hated so, but that's just way out there.
I recall when Spurrier left Florida that it was reported that Stoops was a done deal and asst. coaches were even named. We got Zook. Several years ago Kentucky fans hag Billy Donovan as signed sealed and delivered as their coach. Thank God he is still at Florida. We will see about Saban but like Terry I am skeptical.
The whole line about staff shutting up out of fear that they'll never work again.... I'm sorry, that just comes off like that Texas level of stupid arrogance that only ND and maybe Bama can rival. Coaches and Presidents of schools in the state of Texas don't GAF about what Texas says or does, the other 49 states even less.
Well, Terry it appears that the Texas job is very popular. Apparently, it is Malzahn's dream. Supposedly it is the only job Saban would leave Alabama for. And now the President of the University of Texas is lying. He too is saying that Saban has not been hired. Saban and Powers are going to have to do a lot of explaining when this is finally announced.
Ah the President of the Univ of Texas has a huge batltle of his own going on with Rick Perry and Leg, just to save his job. So he's out of the loop and nobody tells him anything!!
Well the first piece of the BCS puzzle is in place now, with the Louisville win at Cincinnatti last night UCF is an automatic invite to the BCS. Tommy Tubesteak got out coached in the OT, tried a stupid flea flicker actually in the last minute of the regular game he tried a stupid flea flicker as well and had to settle for the tie. Teddy Bridgewater is supposedly the most NFL ready QB in college and a #1 draft choice, the Houston Texans need a franchise QB and will most likely own the #1 draft choice...he scares me. He just doesn't look like a franchise QB, the #1 overall draft pick. I hope we trade down.
Crap there is a rumor that Saban is staying at Alabama and will get a BIG new contract... I didn't see that coming. I gotta go find a bridge to jump of off that won't sprain my ankle!
It's going to be seriously cold tomorrow for some of the games. The OU/OSU game is going to be very cold and windy as will the Texas/Baylor game. Ohio State/MSU and Auburn/Missouri....inside cozy and warm. Don't know the weather in Charlotte for FSU/Duke...but I'll bet its darn cold.
