I said that too at the time Kp but Alabama went on to be so damned good for so long that I gave that argument up a while back.

Hail to the king is what I say......

B1G gave out no punishments to the players in the fight at the OSU/UM game. I'm surprised that the kid who threw a punch wasn't suspended, flipping off the crowd bad form but probably not something you should be suspended.

In the NFL throwing a punch gets you a 1 game suspension, doesn't matter if you were provoked. A Texan DL threw a punch in the last exhibition game at Incongnito and missed the opening game at San Diego.

For reference Bob Stoops suspended a DE who threw a punch in the Baylor game and was ejected for the 2nd half, he suspended the kid for the 1st half of the next game.

Brittney Griner was suspended for 2 games for throwing a punch in a game with Texas Tech.

Terry, the announcers said that in the NCAA if you are ejected in the second half then you sit the next game.

If you are ejected in the first half that game is considered your suspension.

There were plenty of bodies going at it in that brawl, and in my opinion the officials handled it as best they could, but we already got the worst end of it (losing two starters vs. M losing one backup) and I think that it would have been excessive to make those two guys miss another game, considering that there were so many participants, etc.

I might have suspended Marcus Hall another game for flipping off the crowd, but that should have been a coaching decision, not an NCAA one. The kid did issue an apology that, I thought, sounded sincere and not scripted.

A couple of years ago in a UM/MSU game Taylor Lewan grabbed Vernon Gholston's face mask and pulled on it, Gholston took a swing at him. MSU decided not to punish him but the Big 10 suspended him.

Also in a ND game a few years ago a Michigan player sucker punched a ND player that the refs missed, when the film was reviewed Rich Rod decided it wasn't a big deal and took no action but the Big 10 suspended the Michigan kid.

just say'n the precedent seems to be suspension.

edit: FWIW I don't really care if the kid is suspended or not, I hope we get a great game on Sat Night from both teams. Makes it more interesting if both teams are at full strength.

Should Missouri beat Auburn... who just beat Alabama then I can't see Bama being in the title game before Missouri would be.

At 12-1 as SEC Champion with the lone loss being an extremely close one to SouCar how could the Tigers be denied?

I am not certain OSU will beat MSU so this may play out.....

Damned certain FSU beats Duke..... but everything else is up in the air except that if OSU does beat MSU then it's FSU vs. Ohio State.

Slight thread drift to basketball...I see the Gators got the bad karma they deserved for bumping 50 passengers off of a Delta Flight so they could get to UConn where they lost!!

According to a UDub website called RealDawg Jim Mora Jr has been offered the job and he's considering it. I have heard that UW can afford to pay him a lot more than UCLA and he's also a protege' of Don James and a UW alum...so it would be coming home for him.

Kick in the nuts for UCLA if he takes the job.

Just more of the same that the football team has made us endure this season.

Had trouble scoring down the stretch.... took the lead anyway and then UConn makes a third offensive rebounded shot from 12 feet with .1 second left on the clock.

At least our teams don't have have to worry about unwanted pregnancies with their girlfriends because hey..... they can't score! bada boom... :D

Chuck Martin the ND OCoord is now the new HC at Miami of Ohio. Good luck to him, while not everybody loved him as an OCoord at ND this year, he made the most out of a tough situation with Golson having been dismissed from the University.

A lot of people expected that Bob Diaco might get a HC job this season and Chuck Martin would move back to DCoord where he was at GVSU with Kelly. But it's been clear that he's wanted his own gig and now he has it. Good luck to him.

Here's an interesting take from Woj's BMOC about the USC hiring of Sark:

This may not be a good year for 'hero coordinator' types of be looking for a head job. While Jimbo is doing nicely for himself at FSU, it hasn't been without growing pains. The situation at Florida with what is considered to be a 'slam dunk' coach has to give some people pause. Diaco may want to ride this out for a while longer and learn a few things.

I hadn't realized that Sark had been a QB at BYU and was a great college QB...won some awards, lead his BYU squad to a 14-1 record his last year. I didn't really know where he came from but I wouldn't have guessed BYU.

While a lot of people hope Diaco leaves for a HC job, if I'm an AD I'm not sure if as good as the 2012 defense was, that is enough to make me think he's HC material. I'm hearing people say he's a lousy/lazy recruiter and that he's been the reason why some of our better targets like Anzalone and Thomas Holley this year aren't going to be at ND.

SI writer thinks that Coach Gus should get out of Auburn as soon as he can, and that he should jump at the Texas job. Say what? He obviously isn't connected if he doesn't know that Nick Saban has the Texas job locked up. :)

Yeah Auburn has this "family" and "God is on their side" thing going but the family doesn't extend to the coaches. Bowden, Tuberville, Chizik, all got disowned. :?

    KP,

    hahahahaha so true.

    Terry..

Yup, Sark was legit. He was a Norm Chow guy, which is how he got to USC. Peetey began his own demise when he ran off Chow. That led to the two youngins being co-OC, which led to them not liking each other at all.. it was just ugly.

The idea that UDub could pay more for Jim Mora than UCLA is laughable. Mora just signed a 6 year extension with the Bruins. The only job he wants after UCLA is an NFL job...

I really thought that Mora who when they hired Willingham was extremely disappointed that he didn't get the job would take it now. As far as pay/facilities. I don't know anything about UCLA, except they play cross town in a rarely sold out Rose Bowl, while UDub has a beautiful on campus renovated stadium and new state of the art facilities. Pay wise, I was thinking that maybe the Calif financial problems and the dominance of the bleeding heart libs/hippies in the UC system that paying a football coach big bucks wouldn't fly at all.

Speaking of rumors...it's white hot around Texas that Saban is a done deal now and an announcement will be coming soon.

    Terry,
Anything is possible but he was seen out yesterday in Hoover recruiting. He and his wife have stated for the record that they are not going anywhere. Unlike when he left Miami, he is not being hounded by the press daily about his intentions so he is under no public pressure to cover anything up. I take him at his word. If he goes now it would be a worse betrayal than Scott's favorite coach. I guess I'm just too trusting of a person but I can't see him and his wife lying publicly. :?

Between computer problems, traveling and some other time consuming things I haven't commented much this week.

So Terry I understand that Mack Brown is now planning on coming back next year?

There seems to be some interest on Florida's part in Applewhite for our open OC position.
