Stoops says he's staying at Kentucky now.

After watching a lot of football the last 2 days, it sure seems like parity has struck. All of the top teams had big struggles to win...but they did win (sorry Don and T). We have the real possibility of having 4 undefeated teams in the playoffs. I think that is a first? The PAC 12 will be represented (a rarity) right before the conference disintegrates. Of course there is still the chance for an upset in the conference title games but if the pattern holds, there will be close games but no upsets.

I did not see any of the game between Alabama and Auburn, but reading about the finish, that had to be a wild game KP, congratulations and I am happy for you. Our game with Michigan was about what I expected. Michigan made the plays when needed and we did not. End of story and a sad ending three years in a row. I am moving onto basketball and what appears to be a very interesting team and a pleasure to watch. We beat Santa Clara last night by 30 points and their first loss of the season.

Some odd stuff going on in College Station.
It appears there was a deal between the AD and Stoops yesterday. Then all hell broke loose when that was leaked.
I can't say if Stoops changed his mind, or if some big money folks and Board changed AD Bjork's mind.

In any case I've stepped away from football at this point... and don't really care.
    :D

So in the end... they circle back to the obvious, if not homerun choice of Mike Elko.
He was a great DC for the Aggies. I hope he's as good a head man.

Who knows Scott, everyone thought the last coach was the home run choice.

Houston Cougars fired Dana Holgerson. They should hire UTSA's Jeff Traylor.

Already rumours of Tommy Rees to IU as HC. IMHO that would be a huge misake on his part. IU is a coaches grave yard. He'd be well served at his age to stay at Alabama for a few years and really have some continued success and he'll get a better job.

Terry, I think you are right. Saban has always said that he is supportive of his assistants taking other jobs as promotions. I wonder what he is telling Rees?

Possibly. On the other hand, if it happens, why not start your HC career at a program where the expectations are so low that initial baby-step improvement - a .500 record, bowl eligibility, etc. - followed by consistent improvement, could make him a hero and label him successful? Intelligent use of the transfer portal opens the possibility, like it did for Jeff Brohm at Louisville. Perhaps optimistic, but to me that potential would make it more attractive to a first-time HC than going to an established program with high expectations and even higher potential for failure to meet those expectations. Ask Jimbo, not a first-time HC but an example of failure to meet expectations.

LOL... I'd say if Reese could get a contract with terms like Jimbo's... he'd be well served to take it for sure! :D

Not likely Scott, but interesting to ponder. IU's program and financial resources are a far cry from Texas A&M's. :)

Sid, it just seems to me that .500 and bowls are pie in the sky at IU. Tom Allen had 1 good year, then nada and I don't think it's because Tom Allen can't coach.

I will say that Rees probably has the best non-head coaching job in the country. That should make the decision difficult.

Exactly my point. At ND the expectation is for a national championship - at the least, playoff eligibility - but based on the past 30+ years, that also looks like pie in the sky.....until it happens. Rhetorically, which program HC has the greater potential for failure to meet expectations? Of course, this may be an academic exercise. If offered, he may decline for the reasons you outlined, which would be understandable.

Scott is it true that A&M,had Stoops hired till the fans found out and went nuts over the hire forcing the AD to back off, something like what happened at Tenn when they tried to hire Greg Schiano?

I doubt it. I think Stoops was called, but I don't think they agreed to anything.

I'd bet Elko was the main target all along.
