Caught the last part of the Arkansas / Alabama game Hogs never quit, but Bryce Young was just too much today. He and CJ Stroud have to be the Heisman front runners after today. I think some body sawed Varsity's horns off, Texas loses again today 6 in a row now. No bowl game this year. KState will likely finish us off and send us home for a long cold miserable winter.
With the 56 - 7 beat down of #7MSU Somebody looked up the worst losses by a top 10 team. MSU comes in at #5 now.
Utes score first! They did a feature on the Utah helmets that honor the USS Salt Lake City. Very cool!
11 secs left most coaches would have let the clock run out and gone to the locker room. Whittingham wanted their punt returner to have a shot!
Michigan's performance today is bound to make Bobda feel like he has a chance. Both teams peaking at the right time. 2006 again?
Mullen is under some fire, no doubt. The end in OT, reminds me of the KU/Texas ending in OT. After both teams failed to score to take the lead in regulation, the game would go to overtime with Florida getting the football first, scoring on a trick play from receiver Trent Whittemore to Jones to take a 23-16 lead. Missouri would quickly answer with two runs with Badie for a touchdown, and then would go for two, converting and winning 24-23 during the first overtime. A terrible collapse by the Gators on offense, and the program as a whole in a must-win game. I just don't understand what happened to the team that almost beat Alabama in the Swamp.
In 2006, the talent level between the teams was comparable. This year, OSU is clearly superior in talent. Urban and Day have recruited on a far higher level than M has recruited. We have a shot as we have a solid club and the game is in AA but our defensive line has to put pressure on their QB and we need to lock down their short passing game which they have used in the past to kill us when we blitzed or played pressure coverage. Our offense will have to control time of possession but cannot be run dominant. The way they dismembered MSU was disheartening but results like that are not uncommon in road games when a good team turtles and dies after being jumped on by the home team with the crowd going wild.
With the Texas QB woes, it's hard to watch former Texas QB Cameron Rising look good dissecting the Oregon Ducks. Both he and Casey Thompson entered the portal after 2018 and Shane Buechele left for SMU. Tom Herman talked Thompson into sticking with the Longhorns. I now wish he'd have let him go and talked Rising into staying
1. Georgia 2. Ohio State 3. Alabama 4. Cincinnati 5. Michigan 6. Notre Dame 7. Oklahoma State 8. Baylor 9. Ole Miss 10. OU
Bob if both MSU and UM end up with 10 - 2 records. Who gets the Rose Bowl bid? MSU? Surely the B1G west winner wouldn't get, unless of course they win the B1G championship.
My guess is the RB would choose the second highest ranked B10 team which likely would be Michigan. If either Okla, Baylor, or Ok St run the table, will they jump over ND in the playoff rankings?
I do think that if either OU or OSU win out and finish 12-1 that they would likely jump ND, not sure a 2 loss Baylor even if they win out would.
Tidbit. Utah WR/Punt returner Brian Covey was a freshman AA in 2015...still playing in 2021! 2015-Freshman AA 2016 - Mormon Mission 2017 - Mormon Mission 2018 - All Pac 12 2019 - Red Shirt 2020 - All Pac 12 also a free year by NCAA for all players 2021 - All Pac 12 probably again and can return in 2022.
Alabama won with an offensive explosion. Bryce Young had over 500 yards passing and 75% completion and Brian Robinson had 120 yds rushing. That's the good news. The bad news is Alabama gave up over 300 yards passing and Jefferson completed almost 70% of his passes. Alabama needed all of that offense to pull out a 7 point win against a team they were supposed to beat by 20. I'm not sure what is up with our defense but we keep winning. I guess I should be glad we're not Michigan State or Oregon but I don't know how much longer we can keep winning like this until we run into another A&M-like game. By the way I watched the 2nd half of the Auburn/South Carolina game and Auburn played pretty badly, but that really doesn't mean much in our rivalry.
If I see things right the playoff rankings should be Georgia Alabama Ohio State Cincinnati Michigan Notre Dame Ohio State and Michigan play each other and the loser should drop below Notre Dame. Georgia and Alabama play each other and if Georgia wins Alabama would drop below Notre Dame putting them in the playoff. If Alabama wins then I think both Georgia and Alabama would be in. Notre Dame has a pretty good chance of getting in.
