Sid, Good question and many possible answers. He was constantly giving the coaches a difficult time, maybe some anger issues? Missed his flight for a bowl game. It appeared he really tried to settle down, attend class, etc, but then failed recent drug test. Too bad all the way around, he certainly had the potential.
Thanks, Don. Too bad. He certainly had the potential to be great. His younger brother appears to be following the right path. I don't know if the high school experience was a factor. Rod went to a public HS in a rough section of Fort Wayne. Jaylon went to a Catholic HS and might have been more protected from bad outside influences. I don't know. It could be that Rod is just wired differently from his brother.
So FSU played Winston who is under investigation for sexual assault and NCAA improprities while their FB who scored the go ahead TD against the Irish was busy tuning up his pregnant girlfriend. I really think that Jimbo Fisher may be the slimiest bastard to come down the pike in college football in quite some time. And that is really saying something.
Sid I'd completely forgotten that Jaylon had a brother at Ohio State. So far at least Jaylon has been a model student/athlete at ND. I hope that continues!
OK I post this will no ill will towards Bobda or UM. It's just sort of funny, but not the kind of funny that UM will appreciate. I'm sure Hoke has a lot on his mind and unless UM fans are different from Gator fans, or Irish fans or fans in general his life is not fun right now and most likely his family are sort of in "bunker" mode right now. http://scarletandgame.com/2014/10/27/brady-hoke-idea-michigan-playing-weekend/
Don and Terry, here is an article from the Ft. Wayne newspaper about Rod Smith's dismissal: http://www.jg.net/article/20141028/SPORTS0305/310289987/1008/SPORTS
I am appalled that you guys are ragging on FSU something fierce.....keep it up!! 8) On Hoke.... I guess he just doesn't know if he's coming or going lol.
Well it's too bad, sounds like he had made progress as a teammate from where he was when Meyer suggested he move on, but I'm guessing that he likes his weed and that's what got him dismissed. Strong has been "weeding" out players who like their marijuana by increasing the number of random drug tests, it's hurt the team this year but in the long run I think Charlie is doing the right thing. I doubt if the players in Austin like it, as Austin and UT are very into the weed culture.
Sid & Terry, Sad end to his career with Ohio State. Indications here report the Weed stuff as well. Too bad that talented athletes seem to have a need to explore drugs, even if on the light side.
Speaking of Charlie Strong he was DL coach at Notre Dame in 1995-98. At that time I worked with a white girl in the Detroit area who was real real good friends with him..... and I was never too sure just how good. He is married to a white girl as fate would have it....and the union occurred in 1995. Hmmmmm....... But anyway.... that's my Charlie Strong story.
For those of you following Karlos Williams domestic abuse situation, you remember Karlos was described by Jimbo as a prince of a guy...well apparently his domestic partner decided it was much ado about nothing and she's decided to no file charges, to refuse to talk to investigators, etc. Karlos Williams attny wants any investigation stopped since their is no victim. Of course there is no victim, he's a prince of a guy. http://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/local/2014/10/27/fsu-rb-karlos-williams-involved-in-domestic-battery/18012209/ All I can say is that using the TPD as an example, Tommy Rees would have been able to file charges against that cab driver that tackled him from behind in the party bust, and Carlos would never have had to call his people.
Yes I did after walking by and saying hello to Urban in the hallway the night before. I have had quite a run of chance encounters with celebs in my life. The elevator door of the Marriott hotel in Auburn Hills opened in 1995 and there before me stood MIchael Jordan with several of the other Bulls behind him. The next year or so at the US Open in Auburn Hills I backed up literally in to Tiger Woods who was out on the course by himself watching his amateur competition ( he was just before winning his last US Amateur and turning pro) I went in a bowling alley called Colt Lanes in 1964 in Jacksonville, Fl and there at a table sat Johnny Unitas..... and I got to talk to him and get his autograph. I was at the bar in a New York steak house called Friscos the night after UF won their first National Title in BB and there sat Charles Barkley and I was able to give him an SEC/Auburn gig by saying "How 'bout them Gators Charles"..... that was cool because he first said announcer speak but realized I was egging him on so he says "man..... I woulda killed them lightbodies".... pretty cool. I sat on a bar stool in Chicago right next to a top rising country star and was talking music with him about my son who plays and sings because I didn't realize he was famous till the guy on my left asked for his autograph. And.... I wandered in a bar during the baseball allstar break in Clearwater Beach about 5 years ago and sat next to a pretty blond and it turns our her husband who seemed like very serious baseball fans..... and they were because it was the manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates at the time John Russell. I asked him his favorite moment in his career and he said catching Nolan Ryan's last no-hitter with the Rangers was his biggest thrill. I am sure there are a few others mixed in my checkered past but those are some highlights.
Corey, Very true, but if I'm going to bet on one of them carrying the team, I'm going with Dak over Brandon Allen... 8)
Well Texas A&M will not only possibly have a new starting QB on Saturday, Sumlin say's he will announce on Thursday, but also new uniforms. I'm betting it's going to be the same guy, Kenny Hill. Note that nobody calls him Kenny Football, or Kenny Chill, or Kenny Trill, or whatever anymore. As for the uniforms, they are going to wear throwback jersey's from 1939 their last Nat'l Championship...should I mention their only Nat'l Championship!! New uni's, new/old starting QB....I predict pain for Louisiana Monroe.
Actually Terry, after USC decided they deserved a piece of the 1939 MNC a few years ago the AD decided to go along with everyone else who "claims" a championship based on some poll, and added 1927 and 1919.
