Ah Terry c'mon man. Everybody knows Freebirds was born in College Station, and I haven't noticed a drop in their franchising. One little item I forgot about tonight's game: Former OC Jake Spavital is the TSU coach now... he was NOT well liked by most Aggies when he left... thanks to his completely disjointed sideline to sideline play-calling. We'll see if he's evolved any with that. (Not that it will matter much)
These were 2 of Alabama's best players regardless of the side of ball. These guys just can't be replaced with young talent. I'll be interested to see if Bama goes more Nickel to counter this, besides, Duke throws the ball a lot anyway.
Yeah these two were groomed last year to take over this year. Now all of that is not available. The new guys will be sink or swim. They are talented but no experience.
Tough call when they called back that fumble recovery for a UCLA TD. It wasn't totally clear but I do think the UC kid fumbled.
Minnesota survives South Dakota State due to an SDSU fumble at their own 35 which allowed the Gophers to score and get the 2 to win 28-21.
When I was listening to xm sports the guys were talking about South Dakota and they said they were a really great FCS program one of the elites and they expected that they would give Minnesota all they could handle. Also didn't watch a lot of the UCF game, but I fear that Brandon Wimbush is going to ultimately lose that starters job to that freshman they played. He looked much more accurate throwing the ball and that's what got Wimbush sent to the bench last year. He just isn't an accurate passer. Didn't watch any of the A&M game, watched a fair amount of the Utah/BYU game and I think Utah is a nice team and will win a lot of games but I doubt if they win the Pac12.
I watched the first half of the game and thought Wimbush looked every bit as good as he did at ND in terms of toughness and will-to-win. He was 12 for 23, which about average, but - like at ND - it doesn't tell the whole story. He excelled in field leadership. He completed 2 passes for TDs, one long and one short. He ran when he had to for 1st downs to keep drives alive. If I'm the coach, I love the "full package" that he brings to the team. I'll continue to start him and pull him at times during the game to give my freshman valuable reps for the future. If UCF is as balanced and tough as they looked last night, both QBs will have plenty of playing time this season, and the freshman will be confident and experienced going into his 2nd year.
Sid I agree with you about Brandon, he's a heck of a young man and a winner. I just think for the offensive system that they run at UCF, that he is not going to be the starter at some point. His skill set just isn't going to be what they want. I think they are going to go with Brandon for a while because he is a veteran leader and give that freshman time to settle in to the offense. Similar to what happened at ND and Clemson last year
How about Nevada tripping up Purdue in the 4th quarter, with a 56 yard field goal to win the game? Not one of us picked Nevada to win!
After a good first half...actually a good three quarters for the most part...then muffed punts, fumbles, letting off the gas...getting gassed at the end. Sindelar throws for 423 yards and 4 TDs but can't move the team when needed. Two late interceptions. Work to do. Is Vegas at high altitude? Defense couldn't stop a thing and gave up 20 points in the last 18 minutes. Didn't see the game...couldn't get it where I'm at. Thank heavens! 4 fricking hour game. I think a lot of Purdue fans went to bed at the half feeling pretty good. Rude awakening.
