Well there are a few games this weekend. The only ones of note are .. 1. Neb at Illinois. Big opener for both team because it's a conference game not a game against some directional school they will roll over. It's also big because it's Brett Bielema's first game back in the Big 10 after a successful run at Wisconsin and an unsuccessful run at Arkansas. Of course as all 1st year HC they have to install their systems and begin rebuilding the program. He gets a bit of a pass for whatever record he produces this year. But no doubt he'd like to knock off the Huskers. It's also a big game for Scott Frost who is currently under some scrutiny from the NCAA over infractions regarding unsanctioned practices. But it's also his 4th season with his alma mater and so far he has not produced a winning season in Lincoln. After 4 years it's expected that he's looking at a team that is mostly his guys so a winning season would be expected at this point. Huskers will need for Adrian Martinez to have a great season. Huskers are 7 point favorites. Only other game of note is Hawaii at UCLA. Hawaii is an 18 point underdog, Chip Kelly is on the hot seat. He had another losing season in 2020, finished 3-4 including losing to USC and Stanford to end the season. Some think his QB is really good and that they might have turned the corner and could have his first winning season. UCLA is picked 4th in the Pac 12 South.
The Huskers did not fare very well today against the Illini today. Frost is certainly on the hot seat this season.
Illini lost their starting QB in the 1st quarter, Michigan transfer Brandon Peters, to a shoulder injury. Backup QB a transfer from Rutgers, has filled in pretty nicely. UCLA is hammering poor Hawaii, warming up for the LSU game next weekend.
Schocked at Nebraska. expected them to roll today. Frost was a big success at UCF and a great number Gator fans wanted him as our Head Coach. Hope he turns it around at Nebraska.
It's year 4 for him, as Don said seat is bound to be warm even though he is an Alumni who was a great player for them.
Not trying to aggravate AJ, but recruiting to Lincoln and playing a BIG schedule is way different than recruiting to UCF on a 1 or 2 game sched. I'm not saying Big Red can't be a contender again, just that is a VASTLY different task now than it was when Doc Tom was prowling the sidelines...
It seems that every time I watch the Huskers I see stupid football. Penalties and turnovers just kill them.
