I agree with Sid. A constitutional convention is beyond scary. It would be the end of our country as we know it. The last time this happened, Alexander Hamilton and James Madison called for a constitutional convention to "improve" the Articles of Confederation, which was our first constitution. Patrick Henry said, "I smell a rat" and refused to attend along with many others. Sure enough, the first thing that Madison and Hamilton did was to throw the old constitution in the trash and write a new one, which made the federal government much more powerful. Most obnoxious of all, was Hamilton's insertion of the "Elastic Clause" which gave the federal government the power to do anything which it deemed to be "necessary and proper." This clause is often referred to as the "Devil's Playground."

It was an imperfect document, but it has done a good job for over 200 years and has failed only once, during the Civil War. It was this document that made us the richest, and most powerful country in the world, while living in a culture based on individual liberty. Even today, few nations on the planet have come close to achieving what the Americans have done under this political structure. Do you see any Hamiltons or Madisons out there? If you don't, then we had better leave the "We the People" constitution alone. Like Patrick Henry, I smell a rat...

Very well said, Jim. Thanks for your thoughts and for the history lesson.

Which is probably why they do so well in the ratings.

    Foxnews... one channel.

Wanna take a roll call of the others?

a Constitutional Convention is a black flag kind of moment.

One thing I've seen proven true over and over again in my life is that when one party is in power, they'll pass something (Patriot Act, whatever). All the teeth gnashing over that legislation will cause worry and political opposition, but then in time, THE OTHER PARTY who once railed against it will use that law, process, tool in their own bastardized way that went far beyond what people originally worried about at the start.

I do not trust this Administration at all, especially with the Constitution. Additionally, for all those lefties who fear the right in this country will turn into some fascist empire, a Constitutional Convention would give them the precedent to do exactly that. They'd have no one to blame but themselves.

We tend to be far too short sighted in this country. What JOCO said stands in spades.

That's how everything wrong is justified in this country today.

Apparently 4 wrongs do make up for one wrong.

Never in my lifetime have I seen a news media outlet as blatantly biased as Fox News. It's pure rubbish as far as I am concerned.

And the right explains it away like they explain every other radical thing they do..... "hey.... did you see what the other guy did..... so...hey....ya know.... what I am doing is right by God"....

There's no question that Fox is biased toward the right, but you are in denial if you can't or won't concede that MSNBC, CNN, and the 3 major networks are "blatantly biased" toward the left.

I would say the only one that comes close to the bias of Fox is MSNBC and they aren't "mainstream" media..... at least to me they aren't the same...but maybe they are identical.... I'm not sure about that.

Fox News... like so many on the right says.... "hey you sob..... you stepped on my toe so how ya like this shank up yer ribs"....

Right wing gang bangers love to point out a percieved liberal bias by another news outlet and then come back with the same bias from the other side tenfold.

Not one of the other major networks covered the IRS claim that the Lerner emails were missing. Supposedly they've been gone for a year but the congress was just told Fri. This after an IRS official told the investigating committee that they would be produced. By law all government records are supposed to be backed up. Techies say that a crash wouldn't have eraced all the emails.
Without FOX this obvious coverup would have gone unreported. Think about how many hours were devoted to lane closures on the GW bridge. As I said, they're lapdogs.

White House Says Missing Lerner Emails No Big Deal: “You’ve Never Heard Of A Computer Crashing Before?”…

Nothing to see here, folks, move along.

    Via The Blaze:

The IRS said it could not recover an untold number of emails to and from Lois Lerner, the former head of the IRS tax-exempt organizations unit, because of a hard drive crash. That time period — from January 2009 to April 2011 – included a critical time in the IRS’ extra scrutinizing of Tea Party and other conservative groups.

Asked by a reporter aboard Air Force One whether he thought the technical glitch was in fact a “reasonable explanation,” Earnest, the incoming press secretary, was at first dismissive.

“You’ve never heard of a computer crashing before?” Earnest asked.

When pressed that emails are stored on servers and not hard drives, Earnest gave a more detailed response, including attacking Republicans in Congress.

Las Vegas Cop Killers Left Claims Are “Right-Wing” Attended Occupy Wall Street Protest…

The hunt for the elusive Tea Party terrorists lives on.

    Via Breitbart:

Liberals were so excited when news broke of a husband-and-wife team of psychopaths killing two police officers and a heroic armed civilian who confronted them in Las Vegas… and threw a “Don’t Tread On Me” Gadsden flag over one of their victims. At last! At long, long last! The elusive Tea Party killer had finally arrived!

They’ve tried to pin virtually every mass killing to the Tea Party or conservatives, of course, ever since the orgy of slander they unleashed within minutes of the Tucson shootings. The most infamous subsequent botched smear job was when Brian Ross of ABC News breathlessly reported his discovery of a Tea Party guy who had the same name as the Colorado movie theater shooter. The Boston Marathon bombings were initially portrayed as the work of anti-tax activists. On and on it went, as the Left tried to will the Elusive Tea Party Killer into existence, while studiously ignoring the ideology of such individuals as L.A. madman Chris Dorner, or the Family Research Council shooter.

But this time they finally had an open-and-shut case. The killers used a Gadsden flag! They were at the Bundy ranch! SCORE!

Wondering why the Left suddenly shut the hell up about the Las Vegas shooters? Here’s why, courtesy of CBS News:

While living in Lafayette [Indiana], Jerad and his wife Amanda took part in last November’s “Million Mask March” – a gathering of protesters from the Occupy movement, anarchists, and hacktivists.

Nick Wertz, one of the organizers of the Lafayette march, said it attracted many people upset over a lot of issues.

“Everyone there just seem kind of like normal people. At least they were going to stick up with what they thought was right,” he said.

Nothing proves my point about the far right better than that statement.

Boy we have a lot of work to do as a nation.

Gipper..... being zealous about bringing down your political opponent seems here to stay on both sides..... and usually there's plenty to find on both sides.

Being zealous and enthused about police officers being killed or to even infer that someone "is excited" about it.... well..... how sick is that?

Did Rush say that? Sounds like his sick politically divisive diatribe at work.

Or maybe it was a lead-in story on Fox News?

Now you know why the far right scares me.

As usual radicals on the left have selective amnesia. During the Iraq conflict the left media gave us the body count daily. Once Obama took office, you hardly ever saw that type of reporting. NOTHING is worse than those that try to take political gain out of the bodies of dead GIs.

During the Bush years.... in a war that was largely his and Cheney's creation..... the action and daily body counts were significant and relevant to report on.

Obama didn't start that war..... he dismantled it as far as our involvement and he eliminated the need for daily "body counts".

No one has had more selective amnesia during the Obama years than the right.

    Nonsense George?

Oh.... that's right..... Obama started the Iraq war way back in 2003 when he was just a congressman.

Then when he became president he wanted to look good so he made a promise to get our troops out of Iraq and by golly he pulled it off.

    Pretty damned slick that Obama.
