The new materials they've come up with these days are quite amazing, and in the case of AJ's post, frustrating. Structural failure of that little bit of cloth would have been most entertaining. 8)
I watched this GIF for 10 minutes and still cannot figure out what she is saying. I'll need to study it more closely this afternoon and look at her mouth this time.
Well our AD is in Ft. Collins Co negating with Jim McElwian and Colorado State for McElwain to be our new coach. A $7.5 million buy out is a sticking point. Gators waiting to see what happens.
7.5 Million from Colorado State? I'm really surprised, that's a lot for a school like that to demand from a guy who had never been a HC before. I'm shocked he agreed to that. I assume that CSU feared that he would be a short timer and wanted to make sure that if he left for the "Big Time" that it wouldn't be an easy move. While I'm sure a lot of schools like Colorado State get tired of coaches using them as temp jobs till they can get a job at a upper level Power 5 school, but I'm surprised that he signed that unless he was really certain that he wanted to stay a long time there or it had some expiration date like if he left before he'd been there 3-5 years or something like that and after that it was much less.
I see that Bo met with his Team off campus, I wonder why Neb wouldn't let him meet with the team in their facilities. It was just for goodbyes and hugs, it's not like he has another job and would be poaching players.
I wonder if there would be a way to "pay" at least part of the buyout (maybe most) by scheduling a Florida vs. Colo. State game at Colo. State and letting them keep the proceeds net of Florida's travel expenses until the buyout total is met, if it happens. They could even move the game to Mile-High Stadium in Denver. It would be a difficult decision for Florida. a) They'd have to travel out of state for a non-conference game, and 2) they'd receive a lot less $ than if they played the game at home. I guess there's a price for everything deemed worthwhile, if that's what Florida decides.
Sid, the talk on the Gator boards is about exactly that, scheduling perhaps a home and home with Colorado for the buyout. I would go so far as to schedule a home and home and another game or two in Gainesville and pay them well. It would be a good draw and much better than a lot of the crap games we play now.
Bill, although I'd like to take credit for the suggestion, it's not an original thought for me. I once heard someone on a sports talk show make a similar suggestion for another program wrestling with an expensive buyout. Can't remember who, but I recall that they suggested moving the game to a big city stadium. Hence, the Denver suggestion.
Here's an article as to where negations stand. I also read elsewhere that Foley had talked to CSU and they indicated the buyout was negotiable. Florida Still Wants McElwain
I think Michigan got into this with Rodriquez when they hired him away from W.Va. The Mountaineers wouldn't budge on the buy out and I don't think Mich was in a position where they could pay it for him. Maybe Bobda can refresh my memory on that situation.
RR's buyout at WV was 4M. An out of court settlement was reached with M paying 2.5M and RR paying the remaining 1.5M. RR had already left WV and the WVl ended up bringing suit insisting on full payment. They got it.
Does Mike Riley of Oregon State wear a Vest? Because he's the new Neb HC. He's done a good job at Oregon State, I think in the past he's been up for bigger jobs and decided to stay at OSU. He's 93-80 in 14 seasons at OSU. 58-63 in conference. 6 winning conference seasons out of 14. 8 bowl teams in those 14 seasons. They've finished ranked 4 times (1 of those was No. 25 in the AP and NR in the Coaches). With guys like him I guess the only fair way to evaluate them is versus the historical norm for Oregon State, has his run been better than the norm? Also you always assume that if a guy is somewhat successful at a place like OSU and puts a well coached team out there, but lacks access to the talent and the facilities he will have at Neb, then getting better players and top notch facilities should result in good things....in theory.
Is there any unwritten rule about B10 teams poaching other B10 members HC's when hiring? I can't really think of a B10 HC who "moved" up to a better B10 HC job. Has it happened?
