Not only that he'd bring integrity, a 20 handicap, and moulding of men to the program sorely in need of all!!
This is for you Tom According to some posters on ISD, Lane baby is pissed big time. Apparently his contract has bonus clauses for bowl appearances.
I don't have a link, but this was supposedly taken from a LA Times article: •Postseason ban for the 2009-10 men's basketball season. (self-imposed) •Postseason ban for the 2010 and 2011 football seasons. •One-year show-cause penalty for assistant football coach Todd McNair (June 10, 2010, to June 9, 2011). •Vacation of all football wins, including football bowl games, from the 2004 and 2005 seasons. •Vacation of all basketball wins in the 2007-08 season, including the NCAA tournament. (self-imposed) •Vacation of all wins in women's tennis between November 2006 and May 2009.(self-imposed) •Reduction of football scholarships by 10 for the next three academic years. •Reduction of men's basketball scholarships from 13 to 12 for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years. (self-imposed) •Reduction of the total number of recruiting days in men's basketball by 20 days (from 130 to 110) for the 2010-11 academic year. (self-imposed) •$5,000 fine. (self-imposed) •Remittance of the $206,200 the university received for its participation in the 2008 NCAA basketball tournament. (self-imposed). •Disassociation of football player Reggie Bush, basketball player O.J. Mayo and "booster" Rodney Guillory. •Release of three men's basketball recruits from their letters of intent. (self-imposed). •Prohibition of all non-university personnel, including boosters, from traveling on football and men's basketball charters; attending football and men's basketball team practices; attending or participating in any way with university football and men's basketball camps, including donation of funds; and having access to the sidelines and locker rooms for football and men's basketball games.
I recall that ND had heavily recruited Bush and it was one of his three hats on his "decision" day. What I don't recall is his saying that he decided to go to SC to be close to his agents.
Terry, I don't think the reduction of 10 scholarships in cumulative. I think it means they are down to 75 and/or can only sign 15 each year. That does allow to add recruits and not get as low as 55. I can tell you the loss of scholarships is the biggest penalty that will hurt the program the longest. Poor Lamey baby.
He never got to sing "Rocky Top" all night long after beatin Florida but I'll bet he is singin the blues right about now.....
I don't like the way the NCAA handles things ...period. 30 scholarships in 3 years is going to hurt or at least it really hurt Alabama. USC is going to appeal so lets see what happens. The NCAA does what it wants to. They don't follow their own rules so who knows what is going to happen.
Actually, Bill, I believe the answer lies somewhere between your math and Terry's, and the loss of roster depth lasts longer than the three year reduction. Hypothetically, assume that SC is at the full scholarship limit of 85 spread over 4 classes. Assume also that after the expiration of the reduction, SC is able to recruit the allowed maximum of 25 players each year until they reach the scholarship limit of 85. Year 1 (2011): Recruit 15, lose 21. Roster size: 79. Year 2 (2012): Recruit 15, lose 21. Roster size 73. Year 3 (2013): Recruit 15, lose 21. Roster size 63 Year 4 (2014): Recruit 25, lose 21. Roster size 67. Year 5 (2015): Recruit 25, lose 15. Roster size 77. Year 6 (2016): Recruit 23, lose 15. Roster size 85. The unknown variables I can think of offhand are: 1)the 5th year players currently on the roster, which would reduce the negative impact of the the players completing their eligibility; 2) the dropouts/transfers that may occur, which would magnify the loss of depth illustrated above; and 3) the loss of so-called elite recruits who otherwise might have committed if the sanctions had not been imposed. Such a shame. Sniff.
In the case of Alabama, the first string was not affected much but the second and third string was very thin. . No depth, no continuity, and after the third year there was very little left. I know the scholarship restrictions hit us very hard and it will be interesting to see how it hits USC in talent rich SOCAL. Also, will Kiffin pull a Franci....Fran....Franc...hell I can't even say his name.
After the move Kiffin pulled and the animosity in the wake, who in their right mind would hire him? Found an enlightening article: Tennessee football fans haven't been this excited since the Vols got in field-goal range on their last drive against Alabama. But the final score is so much better: Karma 1, Kiffin 0.
Thing is that JO'Co and Corey have been telling us about USC cheating going back to the 90's. I'm guessing JO'Co would tell us that the NCAA didn't even find out the good stuff that goes on over in South Central.
Hell it took them almost 5 years to establish that Bush's family had an apartment in LA that they didn't pay for. I think Barney Fife could move faster than that.
This article says that transferring juniors and seniors can play without sitting out a year. I'm betting that there will not be many, if any, transfers, but you never know. USC Junior & Senior Transfers Can Play Immediately
Well the AP has not problem awarding their NC to a team with no recognized wins in the 2004 season. http://articles.latimes.com/2010/jun/11/sports/la-sp-usc-ap-20100612 The media is kinda liberal, don't you think?
