Urban snaps the SEC string of 8 BCS titles in a row in his third year in Columbus according to this scribe: http://blogs.ajc.com/mark-bradley-blog/2011/11/22/ok-so-how-long-before-urban-meyer-wins-it-all-at-ohio-state/ The OSU AD had better pony up some serious moolah.....
More smoke.....apparently Urby has been pulled from the Buckeye broadcast this weekend. http://www.the-ozone.net/football/2011/Michigan/rumormill.html
The game announcers for the Penn State-Nebraska game said that normally Meyer would have been with them in the booth, but his dad had just passed away. I don't recall clearly the exact day they said that his dad passed away, but I believe it was within a day or two of the game.
Terry & Sid, This is the obituary: Urban Meyer (1931 - 2011) Meyer Urban Frank, beloved husband of the late Gisela Maria (nee Gumpert), loving father of Gigi (Jim) Escoe, Urban (Shelley) Meyer III, and Erika Meyer Jones. Dear grandfather of Nicole, Gigi and Nathan Meyer, Brianna, Maria Escoe and Aidan Jones. Age 79. Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Donations to be made to the Urban Meyer Family Foundation, 430 Stanley Ave, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45226. T Local rumors are that he stayed with Earl Bruce (former OSU Coach), at his home for a few days here in Columbus
I figured out one thing I like about Meyer to Ohio State. I will have personally met the coach of the Buckeyes and his wife and sister and I liked them all and I know they like the Gators. Can you say.....detente?
Just off the wire..... Columbus papers reporting today that it's a done deal..... http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/sports/2011/11/23/meyer-to-coach-ohio-state.html
It will be interesting to see if he takes over immediately or the current staff coaches through the bowl game.
Personally I question the timing of this announcement with the Game coming up for Saturday. Everyone seems to want to scoop the news and to he__ with game day preprations.!
...and of course there will be no pressure.... Maybe there is a guaranteed 20 million or so at least so Urbs is telling himself....so what if it doesn't work out I'll never worry about money ever again.......not that he should have much to worry about money wise anyway after his recent years of employment.... I just don't see Urban as a guy that can hold back on his internal pressure to succeed though. I will say this though.....last year he seemed to be wary of pressing himself or the team and the results were less than satisfying to anyone. He needs to find a middle ground of intensity level.
If Meyer can learn how to handle the stress and still be the same recruiter and motivator then Ohio State got a heck of a coach. I hope for his sake he has, I like Urban Meyer. But I do have to admit that resigning for health reasons then taking another high profile demanding job less than a year later has me scratching my head. But I do think there are a lot of Buckeye fans who now love a guy they used to hate. Congratulations though, I will follow his career with interest.
Just watched ESPN at lunch and he still denies it. Why doesn't he just say we are working out the details?
If I'm Urban Meyer, I don't want to get in the way of the last - and most important - game of the season. I want to be completely above board and wait until next week to consummate the deal.....if there is one.
