I heard that if Michigan is found guilty, Alabama will be put on two more years of probation and Southern Cal will be given a citation by Habitat for Humanity!
kp, LOL! I was wondering if the NCAA had found a way to hold Alabama at least partially responsible for the Michigan issues. You confirmed it.
There is no such cap on the activities they are engaged in......if you are suggesting that our kids don't want to put in extra time looking at film or weight/conditioning training before, during or after practice, either at home or at the facility, in order to improve their performance and their teams chances of winning......that is absurd. What competitive elite athlete at this level doesn't want to get better? What group of teammates would not encourage their peers to work to improve their game and their team? You really can't be serious.....
Well golly gee gipper, you tell me I'm giving a sermon when I don't agree with you, but what would you call this? You have no basis for truth to that statement and what is really obvious is that if things don't go your way in one of these discussions then you make outrageous statements like the one above. You know what I think? That Notre Dame probably has a very similar program.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4431717 I really hope that ND playerd don't have to go through this ****. And if you and OSU players and coaches think that that is the norm and it's no problem than you have no regard for these kids. The off season workouts don't bother me that much but spending all day Sun. a prisoner of the coaching staff is BS. So golly gee Bill, if you think that that's OK fine. Quite frankly, I think that these kids have a right to enjoy college a little bit even during football season. And at some schools they even need time to crack a book. I'm betting ND doesn't have a similar program and I know they care that kids have time to study. The fact that you'd defend this type of abuse of the kids just tells me that you're from a football at all costs culture that always takes the same stance "everybody even you do it." I beg to differ.
Gipper, you are assuming that the statement by one player who refused to be identified makes it true. I am not assuming that. I agree with you about the players needing time to study and to enjoy their college experience. But the way I have read your remarks you have tried and convicted Michigan already. Bobda said that if they violated NCAA rules he has no problem with sanctions. I said that I don't think it will lead to much. I base that on believing most of this hinges on off seasoning conditioning that I believe is common practice and is voluntary. I agree with Bobda that if Michigan, Florida, Ohio State and yes Notre Dame are guilty of violations then they have to take the consequences. But I don't believe in passing judgment ahead of time and yes I am not totally trusting of the NCAA when they come in to make an investigation. If I remember right you had a lot of negative things to say about the NCAA findings at Notre Dame. Let's just see how this plays out.
******** Bill your attitude from the beginning was that all schools even ND does this. I only reported what was in the local media and posted that "if" it was true "screw 'em" I didn't find Tressel's "well our kids spend more than 20 hrs. a week preparing" really relevant. In fact, I found it more blowing his and his program's horn that addressing the real issue here. Just how often do you find that the source of the NCAA allegations are players? Maybe kids who transfered but some of these players were still on the team. This is the same coach who denied that one of his players threw a punch at an ND player and shortly thereafter the Big Ten suspended the player who "didn't" throw the punch. I think that this guy si bad news. I find it hard to give him the benefit of the doubt. His destroying the conditioning records of his players at WV makes me think that he doesn't play by the rules in this area. As far as waiting for the NCAA to make a ruling, cough, cough, I'm still waiting for the USC Reggie Bush ruling. Fortunately, I'm not holding my breath.
Gip, I'm not going to get into what may or may not have happened at M or under RR elsewhere.....my point of contention was that a) there is not a NCAA cap on players training, viewing tape on their own, b) players wouldn't do it unless forced and c) that the comments by the OSU kids and staff amounted to support of any illegal activities. There is no cap on lifting, workouts, film study on their own or under the direction of the S&C coach. If you don't believe that the ND kids engage in such activities after Charlie turns them loose for the day, either before or after classes and school work or that Jimmy and his receivers don't get together in the off-season to work out together, then I don't know what to say other than it's not remotely close to reality...... Without throwing M and RR under the bus, I will point to the fact that a starting OL from M - Justin Boren - transferred to us, his younger brother chose to play for us as well in spite of the fact that their Dad - Mike - played for M. If the climate in Columbus was as onerous a sweatshop as is alleged by some in M, I doubt if Justin would have wanted to make the move and Mike would have sent his boys our way.....
Hardly ******** gipper. Just read your last post. First you tell us you were just reporting then you finish the post by condemning RR. So don't play so innocent. Then your take shots at Florida, Ohio State. But your attitude when the NCAA came down on Notre Dame was different. BT simply let you know the rules. Like them or not. If this comes down to off season workouts I don't think much comes of it, it there's more there and RR is the bad guy you think then I doubt Bobda wants him around either. So until you can take a dispassionate look at the situation and let it play out don't lecture me. Besides if RR is that bad maybe you should not mind him being at Michigan as if he's that bad he should never be a threat to Notre Dame.
Let me remind you how the NCAA investigation as to ND finally played out. After two tie votes on whether or not the woman involved was a booster and whether or not it was a major infraction the infractions committee referred the matter to a punishment committee to assess penalties for this adjudged "major" infraction. The punishment committee in what I consider a tap on the wrist (slap would be to sever a description) took away one scholarship a year for 2 years. The punishment committee had to assess something since the infractions committe had already ruled. I considered what the punishment committee did a complete rebuke of the infractins committee. (I was especially proud of one of the members of the punishment committee the Honorable Fredric Lacey a US District Court Judge who had been a close friend of my father's) I doubt that the "punishment" had any real impact on ND's personel. So the bottom line was that we who thought the charges were bogus were supported by the punishment committee who apparently felt that the "major" infractins clam was complete crap. Oh and if I was really condemning RR I'd have mentioned his breach of contract with WV that cost M millions. And this is another inane post. Who wants to play against a team that bends or breaks the rules to get an edge? Only an idiot or apparently Gators.
For all of you that didn't know it, Bill and Mike are still there and Bill is still trying to figure out which finger to use!!!!
Pretty good Tom. gipper, see you just proved what I said, you will condemn others for the results are in but when your team got nailed it wasn't fair. Funny thing is that all of us seem to feel that way about our team. Like I said let it play out before you pass judgment. On consideration Tom, the finger in the picture is fine.
Fine Bill, it's not right to condem someone before the results are in but it's alright to defend him. I've got it. I've got some thoughts about the Reggie Bush case that I've been holding for about 5 yrs. Can't wait til it plays out.
Tom that is indisputable evidence. I'm not exactly sure what it is evidence of but I'm posted out on this thread.
Actually, what transpired during the NCAA investigation was just a foreshadow into the nefarious investigation 'gotcha' style that we saw with the Alabama investigation. The NCAA began to violate, set aside and just make up rules as they went along. It's fairly well documented that the ND issue was pushed thru 2 committees (that couldn't even decide if an infraction took place) by the guy from Kentucky (I believe their President). The irony here is... while he was doing that, it turns out that his own head coach was writing checks directly from the athletic dept kitty to pay for players. No one wanted to look at the facts then.. they were just giddy that ND got brought down a notch and was 'just like everyone else.' Then we had the Alabama ordeal... Sweet Jesus.. that was awful. Whether or not Alabama had corrupt boosters running wild paying for players was not the end issue. The end issue is that the NCAA made the rules up as they went along in order to 'get' Alabama. That's a fact and the subsequent ass kickings the NCAA is taking in actual courts of law are proof of it. Do I know if UM cheated with RR? Hell, I don't know but I can see why a player wouldn't want to be named publicly for coming forward. He'd face psychotic levels of scorn and stalking for doing so. There are fans who don't care if their team cheats. As a result of finally being exposed for their conduct, the NCAA has been taking a far more deliberate approach to their investigations. The Reggie Bush situation is clear proof of that. They are no longer going with 'what we all know' and are sticking to what they can prove. DickRod's behavior at West Virginia (burning of training records? I've never even heard of such a thing) seems to indicate some level of guilt alone but it is not proof.. We'll see how this all comes out in the wash.
Just what RR needed during Ohio State week. Michigan failed to keep mandatory logs http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4660285 PJ in Jersey
No big deal. I'm sure that they do that at all the major programs. Saves you the trouble of having to destroy them if you leave.
I can afford the new keyboards but the smoke from the shorted monitors is starting to discolor the wall paper. :?
The compliance department is independent from the athletic department. If logs required by the university ( as these were rather than the NCAA) are not being submitted to the compliance department, compliance would be obliged to notify a university official for corrective action to be taken. If the coaching staff is failing to supply required compliance documentation to the compliance department and that fact is not discovered until an audit, both the compliance department and coaching staff have serious questions to answer. And when the AD's response is: that sounds like one defending a person accused of theft by pointing out that nobody has accused him of rape or murder. Also, that the audit and report were issued months ago but only now appears in print just prior to the OSU game makes it seem that someone inside the university who wants RR out provided the story to the press. What a God-Damn mess.
