damn it I'm so glad we're happy with Diaco's stifling efforts :-/ interesting that a program like the Gators would go with a coordinator with no HC experience (that I am aware of).. I know he was the guy in training at Texas and all that.. Still, you're going to go thru growing pains as a first time HC. Will Gator fans be ready for that?
I think he's a good coach. I have no feeling about it one way or the other. I do know that any coach who has never been an HC is going to make mistakes. One of the things that peeved me the most about ND fans regarding Weis was that they seemed angered when he made mistakes that a guy who has never been an HC would make. The SEC is a helluva place for OJT, but at the same time, Florida is the flagship in the conference (if not nationally) for talent so he should have lots of resources to burn while learning.
The Gators have plenty of fans like the ones you are talking about Corey and I am sure the glass is half empty crowd will make a lot of noise going forward. I console myself somewhat by realizing the idiots behind the keyboard complaining are not representative of the larger fan base. Amazing what the internet has brought.
Ralph supposedly he has the offer and is on the clock, he's also been rumored for Kentucky...why he would even think twice about Texas vs Kentucky I have no idea. Of course it could be that he wants to wait things out and see if a HC job opens some place he'd like to be instead of taking a "temp" job as a DCoord.
Well looks like Teryl Austin will be heading to Texas to take Will Muschamps place at DCoord. Texas fans are not esp enthralled with this hire. What did you Gators think of his defenses?
UF was 9th overall in total defense in 2010....that in spite of a bad offense that kept them on the field. However.....they couldn't stop anyone when it counted. LSU at the end of the game......SouCar all game when it was for the SEC East....FSU.....Bama.....had to outscore Georgia. If the defense was decent at all I'll give that one to the players. I was not impressed with Austin's coaching or strategy.
That's what happens even to the best defenses when the offense is ineffective and can't stay on the field long enough to give the defense a breather. The most effective defense will wilt under constant attack. What happened to Florida is a glaring example of that kind of problem.
... and what happened to Tennessee in the first half of the season. Once the Offense started clicking, the defense did not wilt.
That's absolutely true Tom. Many times this season I sensed the defense more or less lost inspiration when the UF offense continued to blunder. But the one time when the offense picked up the defense......vs. LSU very late in the game......the UF defense allowed an average LSU offense to plunder them for a victory. The defense had that moment to save a game and blew it mightily.
