Tiger tees off after 8A. I am 90 minutes south of Bethpage and we have a steady rain coming down at 7A. Supposed to rain most of the day here, be OK tomorrow then rain again Saturday.
In a light rain on the first tee, after having not missed a fairway in his last round, Tiger rips an ugly snappy hook into the corporate tents on the left......not the start he was looking for. Every one has their rain gear on....game on.
And of course being Tiger he makes par from the Tents...bought some gear while he was in there as well! Today's unknown is Jeff Brehaut who is -1 through 10 holes...never heard of the guy. But he started on the back 9 which is supposedly harder so if he can hang on to that -1 he'll be the 1st day leader I'll bet! His 1 day in the sun!
Heavy rain has suspended play....4 unknowns lead at -1 latest through 11, Tiger at +1 through 6. USGA Director sounds confident they will be able to resume play later today....
As of 7 pm tonight, anyone that had tickets today will not be refunded or allowed into following days events. $150 a ticket to see some golfers play only 6 holes??? WFAN Francessa was talking about it tonight even though he sounded more like Al Sharpton...."Outraged!" Any truth to this?
I never got my $$$ back when Axel rose jumped off the stage in St. Louis and started a riot that ended the show after 4 songs... What's that Latin phrase? Caveat Emptor?
Out of curiosity, with such limited parking, with a boggy course, just what does Francessa suggest? Surely they can't let folks with yesterday's tickets in today. Do they give back 25% of their ticket sales? When a game is called after 5 innings in baseball do they refund 44% of the ticket price? When a championship fight ends in the 1st round with a KO are they supposed to refund 90% of the ticket? Just what does Francessa suggest?
Notables that got beaten up in the 1st round: Weekly +9 Jimenez +7 Once that course dries out, it'll become even more brutal.
Brehaut finished E for the 1st 18, the current leaders are -2 but they have only played 8 or 9 holes, I wouldn't be suprised if at the end of the 1st round that Even is the leader.
Well that prediction was wrong. McDowell and Weaver have posted -1 rounds and Mike Weir has a -4 going for him right now....who knows.
Phil was in position ...but he gagged on 2 kickin's that I would have made 10 our of 10 times
I know you all are anxious to know how the kid from Indiana is doing, the youngest player in the tournament. He had a 78 yesterday. Not bad, but he's facing the cut unless he pulls a miracle out of his bag. Not Ready to Give Up Yet
