I want to see the Bush SEC Doctrine continued on for all SEC programs and not just college football teams in general as it is usually maintained that it is in the last 10 years or so that the SEC has truly begun to dominate the other conferences so therefore we owe it all to Bush and we see no reason to share the wealth.. 8)
On another bowl note the SEC may have been 5-5 but if you look at the SEC's top 7 teams....which is still a lot of bowl teams for one conference.. the SEC went 6-1 in those bowls and the lone loss Arkansas was a very tough out for Big Ten #2 Ohio State.
Corey, I'm the one that questioned the juggernaut and all I remember hearing is how blazingly fast Oregon was and how their pace of play was going to completely wear out the bigun's from the SEC. I didn't see any of that last night. Like I said, I wasn't impressed by either team, but I definitely didn't see a speed advantage from Oregon nor did their pace of play seem to matter much either. Did you see a speed advantage? Was the Oregon OL faster than than the Auburn DL or vice versa? The Oregon qb was clearly not having a good night but that is another discussion. OBTW, Auburn's offense sucked too.
To the best of my knowledge, this system represents the only one in organized sport wherein the criteria for determining who plays in the championship game is anything BUT results determined between competitors on the field of play.... It's not about this conference -v- that conference, that just muddies the point.....the point is that lacking an on the field result, the system defaults to some obscure selection criteria that has nothing to do with how your team performed on the field.....in the world of competitive endeavors that is simply absurd and there is no rational justification - just those fabricated by constituencies whose interest lies in preserving the status quo....
If you don't win your games...on the field...and you don't play a good schedule while doing so.....on the field....then the BCS system does not award any team any thing. They have tweaked it pretty good but of course it is never going to be completely satisfying to all. Heck...the NFL has quite an extensive playoff system and the Bucs here in Tampa went 10-6.....knocking off the Seahawks and New Orleans in the last two games and have to stand idly by and watch the losing record Seahawaks play in the playoffs instead. Likewise there is no NCAA playoff system that would always satisfy everyone.
Imagine their angst if they won their conference, went undefeated and were still unable to compete for the title....in the NFL you know in advance what you need to do in order to qualify to play for the championship.....it is all about the reality of what you do on the field relative to that which is required to advance. In college football, no, only FBS college football, what you need to do in order to qualify to compete for the title has as much to do with perception than it does the reality of what you do on the field.....you are at the whim of the voting perceptions of dozens of spectators and have no clue what you need to do in order to qualify......it's just bizarre. I'm not going to continue to debate it....it's a f%$ked up mess. I'll leave it at that.....
In the NFL teams are seeded on a system set in place before the season based on a season's body of work from 32 teams. There are 125 plus teams in the NCAA and any system you could dream of would still involve seeding based on perceptive voting and comparative schedules. As it is....the college season's body of work has everything to do with those perspectives and that body of work allowed Auburn the opportunity to move up from #22 and play for the national title. They certainly were not predetermined coming from that far back. While they were playing LSU and Alabama... TCU was playing New Mexico?
Yes Kp......on the field based on predetermined rules which excluded the Bucs....a team which handily beat the Seahawks and sported a much better record. And that happens with a 16 game regular season for only 32 teams and with players who don't go to school. How do you expect the NCAA to institute something then that works for everyone with the 125 teams full of college students? How can the NCAA have a system that eliminates perspectives and voting entirely when seedings would be the ultimate regular season prize? Can you imagine the griping and howling when the SEC Champion gets to play it's playoff games at home every single season? And why wouldn't that occur? I do say though that a 4 team bowls plus one format would be doable and more agreeable to the playoff advocates that what we currently have. They might just consider it is what I have heard.
So I don't think there are any of us here who think this system is ideal. But there are any of us here who can control making the change. So until there is enough pressure brought to bear to change the system I choose to enjoy the game annually and hope my team gets there. The best team won last night and in my opinion the right two teams played in this game. I feel for TCU, but not so much as to say I want it to be easier for teams from weaker conferences to ride an easier schedule to a better record and to the game. TCU is going to improve their chances in two years, Utah took steps to improve their chances if they can keep winning. Boise State seems to have been left on the outside and likely will keep winning but have difficulty getting to the Championship game. So I agree we need a better system, but ........... I will continue to enjoy the hunt and the game until we get that better system.
Oh my goodness, not predetermined rules? You mean we can't just do this by how we feel? Oh wait that sounds like polls and a one game playoff.
That we can agree on Bill, but I hope that doesn't prevent us from continuing to pressure for a better system....we shouldn't be satisfied with an obviously inferior system just because it's an improvement on the "old ways" nor have we ever or we would still be travelling on horseback and satisfied with it simply because it's better than walking....
Not losing any sleep over this issue that's for sure. Even the year that Texas got left out by the B12 rules, I wasn't all bummed out after all we got to beat up on Ohio State again!!

However where, when and who applies the pressure is the big questions. I don't see much of a way I can pressure someone who can make the decision, if there is I would be glad to participate. In the meantime I intend to enjoy what I can where I can.
   Didn't you really mean to say that you got kicked around all night long and then a missed tackle at the gun allowed you to pull a miracle out of your a$$???? That we could agree on..... 8)
What the WHAT? If your conference has 5 bowl wins, how the hell do you get 6 wins out of the top 7 SEC teams? Oh that's right, this is the BCS, the SEC always gets that plus 1..........
Also, Of your 'top 7 teams' your only loss was by Arkansas.. I got as far as 2 before counting bullsh*t on that lone loss claim. Arkansas got beat by Ohio State South Carolina (SEC East Champ) got beat by Florida State. Any other fuzzy math for us there?
unbiased report on the finish! please note it was a dramatic strike not a Lucky Strike..that's a cigarette from your youth!
It was that....did we ever talk about the lousy 4th down spot on the last drive? Musta been the same crew that called the safety in this years Sugar Bowl! In any event, it was dramatic and a helluva battle all game long. Damn that kid....but he does have a chance to redeem himself for us Buckeye-born if he can work his magic for the Brownies....he owes us.
