Quit it Dave. Tom cannot be any more bothered by your approach than I am. Your approach makes it very difficult to discuss Gator football with other people because of your approach. You need to lighten up and take a look at what we are trying, unsuccessfully it seems, to tell you.
http://www.stiffarmtrophy.com/ Looking like a close race with Bradford winning. I guess this will be the 1st MNC game with two Heisman winners at QB.
As Corso would say.....not so fast my friend. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/11161976 Seems like that regional vote issue between McCoy and Bradford could put Tebow in the top spot albeit in an extremely close race. I think for once there will truly be suspense on Sat. in NY.
I'm actually quite certain that the 2005 Orange Bowl featured two Heisman trophy winning quarterbacks battling for the NC in Matt Leinart and Jason White.
Gatorsports adds to the suspense with another poll.....this time of 98 Heisman voters from around the country: http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20081209/NEWS/812100984/1090/GATORSFOOTBALL?Title=Heisman__Sooner_or_Gator_
I don't think it'll be that close as TT will be left off many ballots containing McCaoy, Bradford, and Harrell. Tebow may have the most 1st place votes but he'll be #2 or #3 in total "points".
It will be interesting to see how the West Coast votes come in, they don't have a dog in this show so where will their support go?
It should not be a question of where they place their support. ... but that is in a utopian society. Being from the SEC, if I went by "where would I place my support", I would vote for Tebow. If I were voting with a completely open mind and was judging the candidates purely by what their efforts meant to their team, I would vote for Colt. Florida has the team around Tim that could be just as, or at least almost as, affective without Tim as they are with him. Texas does not have the same luxury. Close... but not the same. I think the two are equal in abilities and that Texas would lose more with an injury to Colt than Florida would with an injury to Tim. That is the logic I use to say that Tebow is not the most deserving of the trophy this year. I am not saying that he is not deserving... just that he is not the most deserving... this year!
I will even go further and say that if Tim was on the Texas team and Colt on the Gators, for the reasons stated on the previous message, I would have to vote for Tim.
I've decided to be happy no matter the result. I've said for the last few weeks that I expect Bradford to win with Tebow 2nd and McCoy 3rd. All three are deserving. Harrell will come in a distant 3rd.
I do think they are all very close, all interestingly are very open about their christian faith and all are the aknowledged leaders of their teams. I don't think though I would agree with Tom about Tebow, inspite of all the talent that Tim is surrounded with, I think he is critical to the teams success, sure they would still win a lot of games with Brantley but I don't think they would be the same team.
Tebow picks up 2 more SEC awards: 2008 SEC FOOTBALL INDIVIDUAL AWARDS Scholar-Athlete of the Year Tim Tebow, QB, Florida Offensive Player of the Year Tim Tebow, QB, Florida Defensive Player of the Year Eric Berry, DB, Tennessee Special Teams Player of the Year Brandon James, RS, Florida Freshman of the Year A.J. Green, WR, Georgia Jacobs Blocking Trophy Michael Oher, Ole Miss Coach of the Year *Houston Nutt, Ole Miss *Nick Saban, Alabama *Bobby Johnson, Vanderbilt http://www.secsports.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=2&url_article_id=11932&change_well_id=2
Do you think Texas would be the same team without Colt? That is the distinction I am trying to make. I think that Texas would be in worse shape losing Colt than Florida would be in losing Tim.
Personally, I think Florida would be in a world of hurt without Tebow. They have a backup QB in the clink and a group of RBs that really haven't shown too much...or at least shown that they could stand on their own without Tebow.
Come on Corey, Cam Newton is not in the clink so far as I know. There are some charges and he's suspended. John Brantley has been the backup this year and is the likely successor to Tebow. Our running backs as a committee have had one of the best years I can remember for running backs. No one person has taken over, but at least four guys have had turns running the ball. We've done well enough that Moody only gets in the game late and even he has rushed for yards after missing time from an injury and coming in late. Here's a perspective of Peter King on Tebow's draft potential. Peter King On Tim Tebow's Draft Potential
Tim Tebow is the best short yardage runner in the NCAA, I don't think Brantley can do that. And I would agree that Texas would be in worse shape without Colt, but that is because instead of Brantley backing him up like he should be he's backing up Tebow. Colt essentially has no backup QB, John Chiles is no where near the QB that a Div1 team like Texas should have for a backup. He's a hell of an athlete, but it's why it was so important for Colt to come back next year, Garrett Gilbert will be a freshman and will take over for Colt in 2010. But without Colt next year we'd have been in a bind at QB, hoping that Gilbert as a true feshman could do the job or hoping that John Chiles could do the job.
I saw a mock draft for next year on ESPN. The only 2 QB's listed in the first round are Sam Bradford and Matthew Stafford, Bradford as the #2 pick and Stafford as the #3 pick. But as I said earlier I would like for the Texans to draft Tebow, I don't think he's a project but he might take a little longer to get acclimated to the NFL which would be fine. I think his strong arm, durability, toughness, etc will in the end make him a fine NFL QB.
Terry, I would not mind Tebow going to Houston either. Thing is though that I hope he's like McCoy and stays next year so that we get him for another year first.
I'm a big fan of Tebow in college. Not too sure about him in the NFL though. Old habits die hard and learning how to be a pocket passer at this stage is not easy. And running could get him killed. Also his arm strength is a question mark. But I could be wrong. 8)
