Bill, You and I agree 100% on here..and for the record, I think I'd be comfortable with any of them winning.
Here are some interesting number comparisons of the competition each has opposed: Top 10 Defenses Faced Tim Tebow 2 Sam Bradford 1 Colt McCoy 0 Top 20 Defenses Faced Tim Tebow 5 Sam Bradford 1 Colt McCoy 0 Top 50 Defenses Faced Tim Tebow 10 Sam Bradford 3 Colt McCoy 0 Defenses Ranked Worse than No. 70 Tim Tebow 1 Sam Bradford 8 Colt McCoy 10 Tim Tebow has faced the following defenses (total defense): No. 3 Alabama No. 4 Tennessee No. 11 South Carolina No. 13 FSU No. 16 Ole Miss No. 24 Miami No. 27 Georgia No. 29 Vanderbilt No. 37 LSU No. 38 Kentucky No. 59 Hawaii No. 72 Arkansas Sam Bradford has faced the following defenses: No. 2 TCU No. 24 Cincinnati No. 50 Texas No. 67 Nebraska No. 71 Texas Tech No. 85 Oklahoma State No. 86 Baylor No. 91 Missouri No. 96 Kansas No. 108 Washington No. 113 Texas A&M No. 117 Kansas State Colt McCoy has faced the following defenses: No. 66 Oklahoma No. 71 Texas Tech No. 72 Arkansas No. 78 Colorado No. 85 Oklahoma State No. 86 Baylor No. 91 Missouri No. 96 Kansas No. 113 Texas A&M No. 114 Rice No. 115 UTEP http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sports/related/C916/
Fortuneately Tebow and Bradford go head to head so all the stats and stuff really won't mean squat. One will win and one will lose.
Gaterz, those defensive stats make a very strong case for Tebow, IMO. It looks as though Texas hasn't faced a defense worth their weight all season and Oklahoma's numbers only get made to look a little better because they faced a stout TCU defense which I'm sure benefitted from playing inferior offenses. Of course, the problem you're going to run into is that people will be saying that the Big XII's poor defensive numbers has more to do with the potent offenses than it does the porous defenses. Fortunately, that is an issue that will be settled on the field. Yes, it will be too late to help settle the Heisman argument but, I think that it will prove once again that the best football is played in the SEC.
Tebow is a gifted player and a great leader without question.....that said, Aquila is right, I think any league will struggle on defense facing those QB's.....Bradford, Harrell, McCoy, Daniel, Reesing, etc. I can't remember the last time any one league had so much quality in the QB position.
I am not going to get into a QB war with the SEC guys. Tebow is a great QB, as BuckeyeT said, it's just that our guys in the B12 are pretty darn good as well. If you SEC guys feel the need to run down the B12 inorder to build yourselves up that's fine with me.
All SEC QBs are head and shoulders above B12. I mean look at Jonathan Crompt... well... uh... never mind.
I don't think anyone's tried to run down any Big-12 QBs. The NCAA rankinsg/stats are just that. ******
********. 1st, What's your definition of Best...2nd, I think we've all seen great football from all conferences this year. It's just like those Defensive rankings, until all the top 20 teams play all the same teams in the course of a year, it's a guess. The next 4 weeks here on Skybox is all fun and games until Jan 8th.
By only 2 out of 12 teams this year. The 2008 version of the SEC looks like the old Big 10 when it was Ohio State, Michigan, and everyone else. There is nothing beneath Florida and Alabama that the SEC can brag about this year. For a long time I have felt and have publicly said I think the SEC is the strongest top-to-bottom conference in the country. Not this season. In 2008, the power conference is the Big 12. That may or may not translate to a NC, but the conference is deeper with highly competitive teams than I remember it ever being since the merger with the cream of the old SWC. Denigrating the Big 12 in 2008 doesn't make sense. It serves no useful purpose except to inflame the conversation. By the way, don't be so sure Tebow will not win the Heisman. His performance last Saturday certainly did not hurt his case.
I think it's very possible that Tebow will win the Heisman, he'll be a worthy winner. I like McCoy better but that's just me.
Speaking of being sensitive..... Hold up guys, I'm not trying to flame any other conference. I have said over and over again that I think the SEC is down this year. The last weekend of the regular season drove that point home even further with some ACC teams taking some swipes. However, if Florida is, in fact, the best team in the nation as I believe is the case (I could be proven wrong), then the best football has been played in the SEC because the Gators play in said conference. It is simply my personal belief that the Big XII is a little overrated. I could be way wrong but Oklahoma will have to prove it to me.
As I posted days ago in another thread, I think all of the four QBs who will be in NY are deserving of the Heisman. But, as a Gator fan, I'm hugely biased and think Tebow should get it, again. However, I don't think he will because he didn't put up the passing #s the other three did ........ and because there is some Tebow fatigue from the constant media coverage. Good luck to all of the guys.
... and constant Skybox coverage as well. ... and that is getting about as old as the Tebow praises Corey.
