Here's two stats for you that illustrate what an unusual game baseball is. The Yankees outscored the Tigers 28-17 and outhit them 45-36 over five games. You can probably assume they out pitched them as well. And still lost! I have a baseball autographed in 1936 signed by the entire Detroit Tiger baseball team. My father got it signed in person when they traveled through Dayton Ohio. It has five HOFers on it..... Greenberg, Gehringer, Cochrane, Simmons and Goslin.
I have a ball too, but it's not cherry. The ink is fading away. My cousin got it signed by every member of the 1960 World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates, because his high school teammate (George Witt) was on the team. Among the names are: Roberto Clemente, Vernon Law (1960 Cy Young), Dick Groat (1960 MVP), Elroy Face (18-1), Donn Clendennon, Smokey Burgess, Hal Schmidt, Bill Mazeroski, Dick "Dr. Strangeglove" Stuart, Danny Murtaugh (manager) and a rookie named Wilver Stargell...
I remember that 1960 Pitt team JO'Co. That's another series when the Yanks scored a ton of runs but lost the 4 close games.
 Good point! In fact, I believe the 1960 New York Yankees still hold the record for the most runs ever scored in a World Series......and they lost!
