Thanks Bill, it looks like justice was swift and exact in this case. I would imagine that with him being a senior it will be a very long year with the team. RC
This has been all over the sports news here. The first punch, though bush league, is something that it appears that the Boise State kid had coming. Not saying it was right, I'm just saying sometimes your mouth writes checks that your ass can't cash. Watch the replay carefully, you will see Boise State's head coach diving into the shoulder pads of his player to chuck him out of the way. I don't know what he said, but it certainly was enough to: 1. Draw his HC's attention so much that he tried to shove him out of the situation and 2. Got him punched in the head. Had this situation ended there, with Blount's immediate apology, I would have been good with a 3 game suspension... but when he lost it and went after the fans who were taunting him then I knew he was gone for the year. If you're going to be a part of the show, hecklers and idiots are all a part of the game.. You can't have rabbit ears and play on the big stage.. That's just way, way over the line. In other conferences, he'd be sitting out a scrimmage against the Citadel. But he'd been running his mouth and generally being a douchebag building up to this..So the fact that he's gone for the year isn't much of a surprise to me. I still wanna know what the Boise kid said though.
I'm not sure what the appropriate penalty should be for the kid. I think a season long penalty is pretty harsh and 3-6 games would have been more what I would have been in favor of along with some anger management. No doubt the BSU kid was trash talking him, but he is a trash talker as well and if he's going to dish it out he needs to be able to take it. But in any case I thnk the whole season is too much. I notice that BSU is disciplining the kid, but won't release details. I don't know what you do with him, you can set some sort of precedent that trash talking after a game gets you suspended, but I hope he runs a lot of steps. Terry
Actually, it was square to the jaw. The kid's knees buckled and he went down. A classic sucker punch.
Corey, I was trying to figure who your meant but then found out that North Carolina was playing the Citadel tonight. Nasty old ACC.
The Pac10 has a history of hammering it's own in the past. This really isn't a surprised. Like I said.. some guys get to sit a half for arrests and convictions, other guys sit the season. I had an issue with him socking the big mouth from Boise (but I could also see it happening depending on what was said)..but the whole going after the fans is inexcusable.
