8) St. Lucy's is the #1 seed in the playoff brackets for SoCal. This means that they get to play the first three rounds at home, which is a huge advantage in a state that's 840 miles long. Since their gym is too small for the crowds at these playoff games, St. Lucy's selected...cough...cough...Damien High School as their home court. Some of you may recall that Damien is the alma mater of meself, Corey and the current home of 1,300 loud, rude, immature, girl-crazy, sports-crazy boys... It was so loud last night, that the Mt. Carmel (San Diego) coach complained to the referees about the home crowd and their perceived lack of sportsmanship. The main target of his ire was a section known as "The Pit." The denizens of this area are mostly the football, soccer and water polo players who's lack of maturity is truely stunning. (Corey used to be the leader of The Pit when he was there.) The complaints fell on deaf ears, however, as the referees ruled that Damien is a neutral court for St. Lucy's, so there is nothing that they can do...heh...heh... Meanwhile, Downey upset Fresno Edison (in Fresno) so St.Lucy's will play them, at Damien, on Saturday. If the girls can advance all the way through the SoCal playoffs, the finals will be up north in San Jose. ......JO'Co
 we won in four games mr joco was yelling his heart out. we play semi finals tuesday night a home game for us. Meg had a great night
 Downey had a good team. They had only lost one game all season and they were the CIF champions for their part of the state. St. Lucy's won the first game, then Downey won the second one. Our chances looked bleak in game #3 until two things happened: 1. Megan took control of the net and began blocking all of Downey's kill attempts and returned some thunder kills of her own. 2. Our coach had a stroke of genius worthy of Joshua L. Chamberlain at Gettysburg. He replaced one of our regular players (who was playing poorly) with a sophomore named Arden Davis who had played the entire year on the JV team. She was fantastic; playing her heart out with no fear, as Downey wilted under the added pressure and St. Lucy's never trailed again; winning going away three games to one. St. Lucy's is now in the Final Four of the state tournament. The semifinals will be played next Tuesday, at Damien, against Troy High School, which has lost only two games all year. They're the high school across the street from Cal State Fullerton. The winner of this game goes to the State Finals in San Jose next Saturday. Its all like a dream now. Everyone is walking on air. I ran into Megan after the game downstairs and she hugged me and said, "Grandpa! I heard the Irish won!" We keep our priorities in order around here... .......Am I the Drunk in Hoosiers?......JO'Co
Congrats to the whole O'Connor family. I didn't want to speak up earlier. My early congrats is usually like the announcer saying: "He hasn't missed a field goal all year" right before the kicker kicks wide left.
 St. Lucy's finally lost tonight and they fell one game short of the state championship. It was a good ride and we're proud of all the girls. They took Troy HS to the limit, but lost the 5th and deciding game. They were two good teams, but Troy was just a wee bit better tonight. Megan played extremely well, despite playing with the flu and a broken thumb. At least now she can get Dr. Bast to set that thing and put it in a cast...
Congratulations to all. That was a wonderfrul run and something the girls will remember for a lifetime.
What a great season for them, something they'll remember for a long time! Congrats to Megan and good luck at North Florida!!
thanks guys... lastnight was sad but now it will be on to a new beginning in Jacksonville for Megan poor kid has the stomack flu played sick last night but still was remarkable. looks like Joco will be hunting for airfares between here and fl. he is so into this game now.
While you are there, there are a lot of incredible real estate deals in Fla due to the mortage bust and things like that. 50% or greater off the price they were selling 2 or 3 years ago.
