Then he took a knee at the one yard line and Spurrier is still ticked that he didn't score.
This whole thing reads like a bunch of blind men arguing over who has the darker sunglasses. They've all been various levels of shady at one point in time, but it is a matter of what people are doing now that should count. Of all the names mentioned here, I do believe that it is Oklahoma (the saint in this story) has been busted most recently. If anything, this article shows just how tough it is for the programs to keep things wound tight with the number of jackass boosters who are out there dying to be 'part of the team.' Any program that ever had Barry Switzer as their head coach is never going to be able to knock all the dirt from their boots. This kid, and his mom, should be a little more careful with their words.
I originally, and mistakenly it appears, thought that he chose OU because OU threw the party he attended. Oops...
OU has a history of rouge boosters, Texas does not. I'm not saying we are saints at Texas but if you've followed the way Macks recruiting goes he just reels them in and is usually done by May. He has lost a lot of the highest profile players in Texas (Adrian Peterson, to name a big one) to OU where there is extended recruiting battles and I believe it's mostly because he has been able to keep his boosters out of the action and Stoops looks the other way. It has cost him some big names.
I agree with both Terry and Corey. My original point was twofold. 1) He's a good kid and 2) TX does not deserve to be smeared by implication. After further thought I also agree that he and his mom made a mistake by going public in the NYT. The only thing they accomplished was to put a bullseye on the kid's back. I don't doubt that his intentions were noble, bit IMO this is another example of how a fatherless family does not have the guidance to make the right decisions. There have been many, many examples of single mothers who were strong and smart. This mother obviously is strong and is to be commended on raising a good son, but in this instance she was not smart. I agree that TX under Brown has done it the right way and that, as Corey says, there are a lot of jackass boosters out there at all high-level programs.
I am also saying, but not condoning, the fact that....if this kid doesn't wear a full facemask and a set of protective knee braces... then he better start doing that. The trenches are an ugly place to have a big mouth.
