A good first step would be to get a new commissioner. Bud Selig has ownership ties, and he's about as popular with the players as Mel Gibson at a bar mitzvah. There is a real problem when the highest team payroll is over $200MM, the second highest payroll (Sox) is $80MM less, and 24 teams have payrolls under $100MM, with an average payroll of $67MM. A salary cap has to be instituted, and probably the only way to implement it would be to grandfather existing contracts, but not extensions. It's not a perfect answer, but I have a meeting coming up.
