Dave, no... you don't get it. Wendy could come on here posting the exact same story you post. The whole membership would join in and discuss the merits of the article. RoGator or Tree Frog could do the same thing. Why do you think there would be a difference? Could it have anything to do with the many, uncountable posts you have made that that have dulled the senses of everyone here?
Maybe they know better.....maybe I do it anyway because it's relevant. If the Gators become irrelevant my posts about them would diminish accordingly.
No Dave you don't get it. Your refusal to agree about other teams greatness in the past is a figment of your imagination. You bring up a topic and bellow about the greatness of the Gators, then when others respond you play innocent and make outlandish claims like above. The Gators are doing great right now, but the measure of a fan is how they handle that success. Great fans act like they have been there before and respect what others have done. You don't often do either. There are only a couple of Gator fans here and I believe Tom is right about Wendy and perhaps some others perhaps posting here more often. Unfortunately your constant breast beating brings about a negative image of the Gators, that then is even made worse with how you put down the other teams in the process. I'm sorry but you are not going to bring me in on your side as long as your approach is what it is. I may take issue with what others might say about the Gators, but I have to temper that with just how much did MCG cause in this argument. When someone gets as far over the line as Timmy did with his comments about Meyer and the Gators and then his whining on this topic I cannot resist commenting. However every other poster here, and yes that includes Corey even though we have had many engagements, I have great respect for and regret that it is difficult for me to have as many meaningful conversations with them as I might like. It has sort of become the MCG vs the world and yes it gets very old. But I am on vacation and when we leave here Tuesday I don't know how much internet access I will have for the next three weeks of our trip so I guess I will miss a lot of the posts.
I think many of us admire the Gators success. It speaks for itself. But by the constant trumpeting of the obvious Dave has allied many against the Gators on this BB, just by being boorish. His posts are one endless endzone celebration.
THAT'S RIGHT GEORGE!! YOU TELL 'EM!! We need much more talk about MLB and the Train in the distance on this board... A little plug for the Gator Bowl DVD doesn't hurt either... 8)
Unsportsmanlike conduct... Excessive celebration... 15 ARTICLE penalty assessed against the Gators on the kickoff.
Bill....you have completely missed the point. I have not said that championship teams in the past were not great teams. I have however protested the notion that they or their championships are superior to the championship teams the Gators have fielded in recent years. There you have it. Also....if CFN were to write an article that was dedicated to the debate of Jimmy Clausen being the best college Qb of all-time don't you think a posting of that and a subsequent discussion on this board would be warranted? What's been going on with the University of Florida in basketball and football in recent years is beyond unusual and it has caused an unusually heavy amount of media coverage. If you don't think so you are not paying attention to much of the media sources that abound. From today's CFN online we get this article about who the most interesting teams are this year and two teams I have usually commented on are highlighted by quotes below from the journalists responding: http://cfn.scout.com/2/866786.html "Q: What team most interests you at the moment? A: While Florida will be the storyline of the year" ( answer was Notre Dame for Fiutak ) " Q: What team most interests you at the moment? ( asked of Iowa writer Jon Miller ) A: Tennessee, because that situation just seems straight out of the National Enquirer." I won't be commenting on Tenn. this season even though obviously the Vols will be in the major spotlight but I will continue to comment on the "storyline of the year".....the Florida Gators.
I missed no point Dave and I do not agree with you. Just read what other posters are saying and tell me just why you can't get try to get along and discuss instead of the endless end zone celebration as mentioned above. You know I remember my corporate days when there was a person who had a reputation of finding problems that didn't exist, then solving them and taking all the credit. You are chasing straw men who don't exist with your comment about others claiming that their past glories are better than our present one. I've told you before, try to enjoy the ride, act like you've been there before and be humble. Give it a try.
That straw man is named Corey in most cases Bill. He is primarily the one who has struggled most with Florida's BCS Championships but in response to that I have discussed some possible shortcomings in the national championship procedures utilized when his favorite team...ND won their championships like they did in 1947. The Irish fans count that as a Championship plain and simple but there was another very strong...very unbeaten team in Michigan that would have made a fantastic BCS title game opponent in today's BCS CFB world. This is a valid point to make because it emphasizes one of the better benefits brought about by the BCS and it also gives even more credibility to Florida's BCS Championships compared to championships bestowed upon some teams in years past.
Dave, apparently you have not read all the comments from posters other than Corey. Seems many of them approve of his being a balance to you.
I don't have to sit back and absorb some the shots leveled at Florida's BCS titles by Corey when there is plenty of evidence out there that the pot may be calling the kettle black. I think the system is better as we have it today with the BCS.....much better than when there was nothing to compel the top two teams to meet at the end in a title game. Now....I wouldn't have said that in the early 2000s when we had a couple of real shaky BCS title game participants on occasion but I think the adjustments made have been good for credibility of the selection process and what we wind up with is a whole lot better than the old bowl tie in system where unbeaten Michigan in 1947 couldn't play ND or as in 1997 when unbeaten Michigan couldn't play unbeaten Nebraska. I know you don't agree with Corey's view on this either.
No I don't agree with Corey's take on the BCS, the Gators and the SEC among other things. However I am telling you that you open the door for some of his rants, even invited them and because of your approach a lot of others here enjoy his foil to you. All you have to do to understand that is read the posts. And in Corey's defense, even though I have argued with him a lot though the years it's usually because of the way he tends to put things he disagrees with in strong language. However I very much respect his knowledge in the sports arena.
Corey is very knowledgeable in sports information and he has a good base of data references also. Which is why I strive to set the record straight when I feel he is a little off kilter when it comes to Florida due in part to his regional bias and his specific bias towards the Gators. The regional bias is easy to understand because I admit to having a touch of it myself up here in the Midwest wrt to the Big 10 but Corey's Gator bias is a little more complicated because I think some of that comes naturally just from being located in the heart of Alabama. I doubt many...if any bar conversations in Alabama are favorable to UF's football program and neither are the call ins to any sports radio program there very enamored with Gators. It's a natural progression for Corey to make when you combine his regional bias with what he hears around where he lives and works. In any event I have my points to be made and he has his.
Dave, you confuse a bias AGAINST the Gators with one against YOU and your constant praise of anything related to the Gators. This has been compared to endzone celebrations. Let me make another comparison. Read and analyze this carefully. In Austin about two years ago, there was a rookie police officer that justifiably shot a criminal. She was caught on video tape from her own dash cam jumping up and down yelling: "I shot him... I shot him." Although she was in the right to shoot him, public opinion turned on her because it appeared that she enjoyed killing another person. She was fired from the APD. Your celebrations here whether justified or not, has turned public opinion against you and the Gators. What you are inferring here is that Corey is swayed by public opinion... That being the opinion of residents in the heart of Alabama. I have met Corey. I have met Corey's father. I am here to tell you that neither one of them are "followers" that would possibly be swayed be the opinions of those around them. That is not the O'Connor way. You have to prove to them that they are wrong. Then and only then will they change their opinion. I think that has happened once in the last 20 years! 8)
Tom, I could disappear from the board and Corey wouldn't suddenly become a fan of the Gators or even more tolerant for that matter.
I agree that he would not become a fan. A true fan does not change his colors. I GUARANTEE that he would be more tolerant because the bull horn would not be bursting his eardrum anymore. That is a 2" put for eagle on a par 5 gimme.
A bull horn? Gentleman, and Ladies, I may have become a little more humble with age, but that train whistle you hear in the distance is only going to get louder... Your memory of Dave will only be that of the obnoxious drunk you invited to the BBQ...   HOW 'BOUT THEM CORNHUSKERS BABY!!
