Jack Nicklaus says he doesn't think the Masters can be played this year. Said he thought it wouldn't be fair to other tournaments
On the golf channel they were saying that Augusta shuts down for the summer and then reopens in the fall but that it's not the same golf course in the fall as it is in the Spring.
So I had to get out of the house this past sunday. I was very concerned about the wifes welfare. I had started to watch Scott Petersens fishing tips, and looking for bass boats on Craig's list. So anyway, I went golfing. For NE courses to stay open, only 1 rider per cart, flag stays in, and they put foam cups inside the hole so you dont have to reach down to get your ball. It was assumed that if you hit the pin or touched the foam on your putt, that the putt was good. I shaved 6 strokes off my game sunday!
Golf related at least! Texas A&M 12th Man website did a "Where are they now" on my nephew Matt Van Zandt. Matt has had a terrific amateur career and now is a new father. Where Are They Now? - Texas A&M Athletics - Home of the 12th Man
Nov. 9-15 is now the scheduled date for the Masters. Make you're travel and room arrangements quickly.
Now I can see this coming off, by then we should have rapid testing available for the players and golf is definitely a game where social distancing can be practiced easily. If they test players and caddies before letting them on the grounds then a player and caddie should be OK to work together as usual. I do wonder if things will be where you can have large crowds though.
Well the PGA has said that it is not postponing, the Ryder Cup in Sept at Whistling Straits. Game On!
I see that the PGA Tour has announced that they will restart in June at the Colonial in Fort Worth. They are moving things around quite a bit. No spectators will be at these early events. Even though social distancing is pretty easy in golf, I wonder how they will handle the caddies? I wonder if the Tour will have some type of testing of players and caddies onsite. There are new testing modes coming up all the time, some that give results very fast. Right now it's hard to imagine these valuable assets be anywhere but in the hospitals and other public health sites, but by June maybe they'll be in grocery stores.
I see where the Memorial Tournament here in Columbus is now scheduled for mid July. That will be a major change for Jack's tournament!
