Terry, Lloyd is still living on a university pension and it now looks as if your reports of Rich Rod's departure might also be premature  http://michigan.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1172485 I think if Michigan or Notre Dame offers any summer educational seminars on the subject of terminating and hiring employees, I'll supress my urge to attend them. I felt better after reading Jo Co's positive commnets about Brady Hoke but I wish the guy did not look so much like Wayne Fontes.
The talented research department at NDNation pulled this gem from the internet archives in which our esteemed University president talked about how unfair it was to terminate a coach three years into his contract ( i.e. Ty): http://www.annarbor.com/sports/mary-sue-coleman-standing-behind-rich-rodriguez-coachs-agent-says/
Harbaugh <r>well wherever Harbaugh goes I hope he does it quick. I'm sick of hearing about him already. Hopefully he goes to the NFL cause I'm tired of seeing his act every year already. the guy is just creepy to me. <E>:?</E></r>
Tim You don't end the auction while bids are still being made. Bobda This never would have happened if RR were not Hispanic. Definate racism involved. Come to think of it, was he hired under their famous affirmative action program?
Bobda, I saw on ESPN that John said something like, this Michigan thing is done, meaning that it's not under consideration. Brady Hoke = Wayne Fontes. I hadn't thought about it until you mentioned the similarity. I can understand why a Michgander would not like the resemblance.
Tim, your ongoing comments regarding Harbaugh's character reminds me about a Vince Lombardi comment about George Allen after he left the Bears to become the Rams head coach:
I can't believe that the UM AD had a 3hr meeting with RR, that there is no decision and they will meet some more...talk about leaving a guy twisting in the wind. Of course it might be that option #1 Harbaugh is gone and that option #2 Hoke is negotiating and it's not a sure thing there for option #3 becomes RR with mandated defensive staff changes.
harbaugh <r>Hey, all I said was I didn't like him and I thought he was creepy...I said nothing about his coaching abilities etc. I still think he's creepy. Maybe goofy would be better...no, he's creepy for sure. <E></E></r>
8) Another option is that Harbaugh goes to the 49ers, Hoke takes his Stanford job for a huge raise and Michigan gets left holding the bag, because they couldn't close a deal with anybody. I have no faith in this UM admin. Aren't they the people who thougt that RichRod would be a good fit in the first place?
The current AD at M, Dave Brandon was only hired a year ago. It was his predecessor Bill Martin who brought Richrod to Ann Arbor. Yesterday was a very strange day here. At 2 in the afternoon there were parties all over the place celebrating the dismissal of RR. Then the news came out that he ain't dead yet. The team meeting scheduled for last night was postponed until today. The ugly lynch mobs who took to the streets Sat. night have returned but this time they're carrying 2 ropes. If RR stays there will be many, many unhappy Wolverine fans out there. I think that Brandon is still trying to get a commitment from someone on his short list of successors. Meanwhile he probably is asking RR to come up with staff changes (especially on D) that will show some excuse to give him another year if they can't work out a deal. M must have used the ND method of coach replacement as a model. Our ineptitude after Holtz and Davie was just astounding. It's one thing to change horses in mid stream. It's another to jump off and hope you have another horse there when you come down.
Michigan is a premier job. There has to be someone of high abilities available even if Harbaugh isn't. The Gator Bowl debacle convinces me that RR just isn't going to get it done in AA and it's time to cut the losses and try to get back on track recruiting wise. No recruit is going to believe RR is set in AA for the next 4 years and I can't see an extension coming by any means. Michigan's unemployment rate is going up another .0000001% today I think.
One thing I think we should have all learned is that even "terrific jobs" like Miichigan will have a hard time attracting an established coach away from his situation. USC when they hired Carroll he was their 5th choice, when he left they got Lane Kiffin (hardly a homerun hire). Ohio State when they hired Tressell he was not their first choice. Notre Dame has been down this route a number of times with Stoops, Gruden, etc and never gotten one of those guys to come. The Gators have been down that route as well when Zook was hired, you guys did get Urban who was the hottest coach in football then but he was still young and somewhat unproven with only 4 years as a HC. This time you got a 1st time HC. Michigan did, at the time at least, get a big name coach in RR. This time they might not get as big a splash, although Hoke if they get him might be more in the line of Urban a guy without a long resume as a HC but who seems to be somebody who is on the rise and a good risk. It'll be interesting who Texas can lure when ever Mack Brown hangs it up.
Hear an interesting theory on the radio this morning. Harbaugh just might look to take the Carolina job. They have what no other team can offer him, the no. 1 draft pick and the opportunity to take Luck. They have made quite a team so far and you never know....
I'm sure that Jimmy Clausen will be thrilled to have Harbaugh!! They can renew old aquaintences! But I do think that he'll go with the 49ners so that he can play Pete Carroll twice a year. Pete will no doubt look forward to renewing their friendly competition!!
