DodgerDog, now that things are going so well in La La Land for the Dodgers when will your management trade half the infield and the catcher and ruin the team, will it be in July? :)

If they ever trade Russell Martin, there will be a revolution in the streets that will make the immigration walkouts look like the Easter Parade...

My Dodgers are taking themselves down the drain. They have two big problems that must be addressed NOW:

    1. Juan Pierre is not a ballplayer. They gave that clown a 5 year contract and he keeps dropping flyballs. He also can't throw or think. Tonight he dropped another flyball and missed a friggen BUNT sign on a suicide squeeze. He's in way over his head and he needs to be replaced by Matt Kemp who homered tonight in his rehab assignment in Las Vegas...

    2. Wilson Betemit is not a ballplayer. He's batting zero righthanded and not much higher lefthanded. That's pretty sick for a power position like 3rd base and tonight he struck with the bases loaded. Nomar has offered to play 3rd base while James Loney plays first, but the skipper has remained loyal to Betemit so far. We say, "Walk the plank, matey!" Bring up James Loney now!

The Dodgers won tonight as they appeared to be on the verge of solving their power shortage. As great as their bullpen is, and they're now 15-0 with a lead after the 6th inning, their team isn't great because of the huge hole in their lineup at 3rd base. Wilson Betemit finally was benched after yesterday's 3 strikeout performance, including one with the bases loaded. BTW the Dodgers are now 2 for 34 with the bases loaded. That's what happens when you have a power slot filled with a .125 hitter...

So they benched him. Then he came up and hit a pinch hit home run. Good grief Charlie Brown! Maybe they'll be able to trade him instead of just cutting him or paying him to play for someone in the American League like they did with Odalis Perez...

Today is a special day in LA. No, not Cinco de Mayo. Its the one year anniversary of Russell Martin's debut for the Dodgers...

LOL! All anaysis went down the drain today. The Dodgers got clever and placed pinch hitter Marlon Anderson on the DL, even though he isn't hurt, to open a roster spot. Then they brought up Andy LaRoche from Vegas to play 3rd base and he doubled and scored today. Incredibly, Wilson Betemit pinch-hit and homered again for his second consecutive at-bat. Fear is a great motivator...eh?

All of this wonderful cleverness went right down the drain, however, as the bullpen blew their first lead after the 6th inning as Tsao finally gave up his first hits and was blown off the mound. The best plans of mice and men...eh?

The Dodgers can't put all of their pinch hitters on the DL. Some trades will have to be made sometime. They have 11 outstanding pitchers here, one on the DL (Schmidt) is almost ready to come back, and two at Vegas (Brazobahn and Hong-Chi Kuo) who're ready but who must wait for roster spots to open. The Dodgers are talking trade with everyone and something will break sooner or later. Gerald Atkins (3rd base) of the Rockies is becoming a very hot commodity in the talks. The Angels are after him too...

BTW- Juan Pierre is rapidly becoming one of the most unpopular players ever to play here. Dodger dogs have zero tolerance for players who're overpaid and lacking in baseball smarts. Today Pierre was picked off first by Atlanta's backup catcher. Yesterday he dropped another flyball. Everyday...its something.

Dodgers are winning in Florida, although they're not playing well...

The left side of the Marlins infield may be the best in baseball. In a TV poll taken tonight, Dodger fans voted the Yankees tandem of A-Rod and Jeter as the best left side in baseball, although an argument can be made that the Marlins very young 3B Miguel Cabrera (.351) and SS Hanley Ramirez (.331) are actually better...

The call up of wunderkind Andy LaRoche and benching of Wilson Betemit is working nicely. Betemit is now 3 for 3 in his new role as a pinch hitter, with two HRs and a double, while LaRoche is batting .400 and was on-base every at-bat today...

The two features of the current Dodgers that really stand out are their super bullpen and lack of consistent power. The team is now hitting 2 for 38 with the bases loaded...

So how good is the bullpen and how bad is the lack of power? Dodgers are 17-1 when leading after the 6th inning, but 2-12 when trailing after 6 innings...

What a lousy game tonight. The St. Louis Cardinals came into town as the worst team in baseball and they got well in a hurry. The Cards were dead last in batting average, runs scored, on-base percentage etc. Most of their starters were batting under their weight; they'd scored a grand total of 110 runs all season; and they hadn't hit a HR in 10 games...

So they promptly pounded Brett Tomko for 7 runs in 2+ innings and lil' Duncan hit a bomb halfway up the pavillion in right. Good grief...

Well, what can I say Coach....

Cards have 4 problems this year...

    (1) WS Hangover
    (2) Tony Larussa's Hangover
    (3) Another Death in the Cardinal Family
    (4) Pitching trades that are questionable

    oh, I forgot 1 more....Milwaukee Brewers.

They're only 8 games out, and we're a long ways from the All-Star break....to be continued.

Now the Yankees on the other hand....

Interesting story about how Ken Griffey Jr. handled a Dodger heckler and won him over. This is the second example I've read about lately where a player did something funny to neutralize a heckler. Vernon Wells was the other. He wrote a silly note on a baseball and tossed it to the fan.

I'm sure he doesn't. I believe he wrote the note in the dugout and tossed the ball to the fan when he went back onto the field.

    re: UCLA cheerleaders

They were right in front of me, just a few feet away, last year at the UCLA-Notre Dame game. I sat in the third row. They're all very good looking, as you can see. Their leader, who is much better looking in person than in that photograph, is the tall girl on the left. She's the one who instigated the attack on the fellow who was wearing the USC cap...

    re: Cardinals

The Dodgers won tonight, but the Cards scored 7 more runs. They seem to have broken out of their slump and they should win a lot more games from here on in, but they will be hard pressed to catch the Brewers...

    re: Milwaukee Brewers

Before the season, two teams were talking World Series: the Angels and the Brewers. The Angels aren't that good. We've seen them and they'll be in the playoffs, but I can't see them winning it all. They'll have to add some players before the trade deadline to do that. The Milwaukee Brewers, on the other hand, are the best team that we've seen. They have everything they need right now, including the only bullpen in baseball with a better record and lower ERA than the Dodgers bullpen. The Last time I looked (last week) the Brewers bullpen was 20-0 in save situations. They're for real...

    re: Junior Griffey
How can anyone hassle Griffey? In his brief time in the minor leagues, he played for San Bernardino and he was the most popular player they ever had there. The locals still talk about him...

    re: Rafael Furcal
Furcal missed all of spring training with an injury and was off to a slow start. Well, he's going now. Furcal had four more hits tonight, for his third consecutive 4 hit night. With 12 hits in three games, he's raised his batting average from .212 to .295...

    re: Dodger depth

As I predicted, the Dodgers have started to cut players to make room for players coming off the DL. The next to go may be Larry Bigbee down at Las Vegas, who's BA has dipped down to .370 from .400...

Dodgers win again to take 2 of 3 from the Cardinals. Furcal had a double in his first at-bat, giving him 15 hits in 17 at-bats. He's en fuego...

The Dodgers look like they're starting to pull away in the West. We'll find out more in the next two series. They play the Angels at Anaheim, then return home for the Brewers. Its still early, but these next six games should tell us something...

"Fear is a great motivator" Part II-
After losing his starting job, Wilson Betemit is now 4 for 5 as a pinch hitter with three HRs and a double. His HR won the game tonight...

The Dodgers are now 19-3 when they score first. Love that bullpen; wish we had more power...
