You are living in dreamland. If I was young and grew up in today's society, I'd probably go for the party that promised me things, a government that offered to take care of me. As a Republican friend of mine once replied when I teased him that I could never be a Republican because I care about people, he said, "You're right. Our history is full of people who didn't care about others, like.........ABRAHAM LINCOLN!"
Dave I agree in part, yes there is more faith in people and concern in what is right, that is because they are experiencing a total lack of leadership from either party. The truth is a large portion of our society does not listen to either party and the bickering stalemate that entails. If you listen to what is being said on this board, I mean really listen the argument at its core is what is right for this country. Hardworking Americans, poor and rich want the same opportunity that our grandfathers had. We have become so encapsulated in talking points and voice bites strung up on whatever 24 hours news is on at the moment that we forget this train called America is chugging toward the cliff.
That proves my "lack of faith in people" comment so adroitly. Acerbic put downs of anybody that doesn't see it your way seems to be the way you roll. I give our kids a chance to be hard working contributing Americans even if they are Democrats whereas obviously the GOP thinks any Democrat is looking for a handout... a freebie. It would be amusing if it wasn't such a sad statement of what the GOP has become. You guys tend to characterize and generalize the worst about anyone who doesn't see your viewpoint 110%.....and that I believe is driven by the worship of the conservative media. Good points Ralph.... I agree. If the far side of either party would allow for moderate views it could solve a lot of that conflict and ineffective governance but both of those extremists factions realize how dangerous that would be to their own power position so they fight moderation tooth and nail.
Dave, I am not going to speak for others here. I am not saying that it starts with people being lazy and wanting handouts. That's just how it ends. You have the Democratic party that has planned to enslave a pool of voters by offering to play Robin Hood. If I were out of work in this bad economy, I would be beating the pavement looking for work. There are people that started out this same way. They became discouraged by not having much success. The handouts from the Democratic party were a way to get them by for a few months. The few months turn into a few years. The longer they take, the harder it is to get out of bed and look for a job. It is the handouts that make people lazy over time. I'm finding myself with challenges building in my life. Arthritis and Dupuytren’s desease is making it harder every day to do my job. Even typing messages here, you have probably noticed an increase in my typos over the last few years. By diabetic condition makes travel more of a detriment to my health. It would be so easy for me to apply for and get disability. I see able bodied people drawing disability and it makes me sick. I see trucks rounding people up to distribute them at street corners to beg. I’ve seen a “down and out homeless man” walk several blocks, no longer limping like he did on the corner, and get into a nice high dollar car and drive off. I am all for helping people that have no other choice. There are too many that do have choices though. There are still people on the dole from Katrina. The handouts make people lazy. The Democrats have decided they want my money to give to the lazy to keep their votes forever. It is my belief that a man should work. If that means flipping burgers until something better comes along, then so be it. I have been out of work before. I did not file for unemployment. The closest I came to unemployment was $100 per week to walk the picket line at Firestone Tire and Rubber in Lavergne Tennessee in 1978. I am proud of working. I wish everyone received the same satisfaction providing for themselves and their families. Final thought: I like court shows. However, some of the people that show up on them have no idea how to spell the word work. On one court show, the judge was asking questions of one of the litigants. How to you support yourself and your 10 kids. I get child support. All the kids from one father? No, I got 10 baby daddies. They all pay child support? No, 3 are locked up. So the other 7 give you support? No, I gets a check. From the government?!?! Yes. Then you don’t support your kids… I support your kids. Everyone that works to pay taxes support you and your kids. Guarantee you… if she votes, it is not Republican.
Anyone remember this story from the Detroit News back in 2010. It's a good illustration of the Democratic, freebie, work ethic of today: This is the way it is and those that deny it are delusional.
A reporter once asked Winston Churchill why he was the leader of the Conservative Party when he had previously been the leader of the Labor Party. He replied, "A young man who isn't a liberal has no heart, but an old man who isn't a conservative has no brain."
Wow, so much to commend in the above post, its all true... As many know I dabble in Citrus in Florida with 2500 acres in production. A good friend of mine is partner with his father in a citrus nursery business. He recently expanded his operation by building more greenhouses. I commented that at least he is helping the economy with the expansion and his reply was Ralph we have not hired a single new person. The only people who apply for a job are only trying to extend their unemployment and let me know that they can make more money by being unemployed. His starting wage is $10 hour with no experience.... I agree with Tom in the fact that there has been a form of enslavement for voters with the Robin Hood mentality. Because of this the "will" to work has disappeared and continued unemployment continues. Hey maybe I am the dumb guy, I sure have thought this over the years. Maybe I should give up getting up at 5:00 am every morning leaving by six and getting home 12 hours later on a normal day. I am not driving a new Escalade like the family who was in front of me using food stamps at the grocery store. Hell my wife is driving a car made in 1997 because its all she needs and does not have anybody to impress. Our sense of what is owed to us and what is important in our country is "inside out" to the morality I was ingrained with. I was taught if you cannot afford it you can't purchase it, but if you have the drive to work and make money you can work your way to owning whatever you desire. The welfare mentality is totally against this and looks on that mindset as insanity...
And for those who may say I cannot relate I say "BuschWa"... My 42 year old brother who has a degree from UF along with his wife who also has a degree from UF have been dabbling in their own form of welfare for years. They are the type that has a beautiful $400K house on 11 acres that has not paid a payment in years. Must drink only organic milk and eat eggs from chickens that are free range. Would never think of sending their kids to public school and has worked the parents from both sides for money for years. My father was rushed to the hospital this weekend to have a stint put in for blockage and when I asked him if there was anything in particular that had him worked up he mentioned that my brother went on vacation with money he got from his father in law. It pissed my father off into a frenzy knowing he had just sent my brother money to pay his mortgage while he is going on vacation as my 80 year old parents are scrimping to buy groceries.. My comment was why should he or his wife look for work when for years they have come to expect welfare from their parents...As mentioned earlier adults that can work should be working but the idea of free money clouds the judgement of that idea...
 Times sure have changed. My American grandmother collected her own eggs from her chickens and knocked down walnuts, which she gathered to sell. My American grandfather had retired before Social Security, so there was none of that. The only government check she ever received was grandpa's Spanish-American War pension of $12 bucks per month, which she collected until she died at age 103 in 1986. If she ever had a vacation, she never mentioned it.
I'm sorry for ranting guys, I started off trying show an example but tossed up the dirty laundry in the process.
That hit close to home. My maternal grandmother (95 years old now) and grandfather (died in his 60's) were farmers in rural Tennessee. I remember helping gather eggs and fishing for catfish in the river that bordered their 66 acres. I remember the outhouse until I was six years old when indoor plumbing was installed. Rock roads were the norm. I do not recognize that area today. All roads paved and housing developments taking the place of farm land. Cindy's parents are still farmers although health has greatly reduscet their output to about a one acre garden. That generation had no thoughts of depending on others to support them. My parents generation (not my parents) started rolling that snow ball at the top of the hill. My generation (NOT ME) has that snow ball rolling at high speed. The next generation beyond me sees a snow boulder rolling over the residents in the valley.
Along With Showing Russian Navy Vessels During Tribute To American Vets, DNC Video Also Featured Turkish Fighter Jets… Via Daily Caller: The Democratic Party’s national convention in Charlotte, N.C., may have doubled down on insulting the U.S. military community. The Democratic National Committee has already apologized for using a photo of four Soviet-era Russian warships in a giant stage backdrop intended to illustrate the party’s support for military personnel and veterans. That huge image, visible in the Time Warner Cable Arena during speeches by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and retired Admiral John B. Nathman, also depicted a synchronized formation of jet aircraft that convention-goers assumed were American fighter planes. But the F-5 fighter planes in the photo are part of the air force of Turkey, a nation whose government is now jailing journalists and establishing Islam as a state religion. Brad Woodhouse, a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee, did not respond when the The Daily Caller asked why the convention planners displayed Turkish-flown aircraft alongside Russian warships while seeking support from the American military community. On Sept. 12, Democrats apologized for using the picture of Soviet-era, Russian-operated ships after the slip up was first reported by the Navy Times. The Navy Times also received a tip that the planes depicted may have been from the Turkish Air Force.
Monica Lewinsky “To Publish Secret Love Letters To Bill Clinton Revealing His Insatiable Desire For Threesomes”… Bubba into three-ways? Shocker. Via Daily Mail: Monica Lewinsky is reportedly set to write a tell-all book about her affair with Bill Clinton – including her intimate love letters to the ex-president and how he had an insatiable desire for threesomes. The former White House intern, 39, reportedly wants revenge on Clinton, who she believes escaped unscathed while she has never been able to shake the disgrace of their Oval Office trysts. Friends claim publishers are scrambling to get their hands on the book, and after holding meetings, she has learned she could get as much a $12 million if she recounts every tawdry detail. While she has not yet secured a book deal, her apparent attempts to cash in on the affair could rattle the Clinton marriage – and wreck Hillary’s bid for the presidency in 2016. The book will also include never-before-seen love letters that she wrote to the president – some of which were so intimate she never sent them, another friend added. They reportedly detail her love for Clinton and how Lewinsky, then just 22, could make him much happier than his wife, Hillary, who the president called a ‘cold fish’. He also laughed about his nonexistent sex life with his wife – and said he thought he was not the only one looking for love outside their marriage. ‘Monica can describe how Bill went on and on about his insatiable desire for three-way sex, orgies and the use of sex toys of all kinds,’ the friend added.
Hmm he must be popping little blue pills because I am the same age as Bill when he was in office and my idea of a threesome these days is getting that third pillow on the bed to sleep better....
