:? I'm old school. I liked Alabama's uniforms just the way they were. Is it really necessary to put the name of the school on the back?
I wish they would just leave them alone. I think Alabama on the back is just for the ad. At least they didn't really change them. I had this horrible picture in my mind of something like Oregon.
I'm pretty sure ND announced a while back that the players' names would be on the back of the jerseys for the game, a departure from the norm.
I remember reading something that it was a 'tradition' thing for Ara that they got to wear the names on the jerseys.. I could be wrong.
Here in Western Carolina we are less than 20 miles from Georgia and Athens is not much more than an hour away. There are literally tons of Georgia fans in the area. I have yet to have any unpleasant dealings with any of them. I have come to the conclusion that fans are fans, they love their teams just like we all do and most of them are down to earth people just like us.
Yeah I don't ever plan on approaching that subject again. I can't recall the times I run into author after author... player after player, person after person who talks openly about a situation..but I mention it on the box and because Bill didn't see it in G'ville or Western Carolina... it isn't so.. So I don't bother. For real crazy Georgia fan fun though.. I'd highly recommend hanging out in RF during baseball season. The frat boys have a deck built out onto the baseball stadium. Their trash talking and grill outs are legendary...and honestly kinda fun.
Corey, I may have an answer to the discrepancy between what you and Bill see. What is the age group of fans you mix with compared to the ones with which Bill sees. Younger fans tend to be more rabid in their defense of their university than older. Example: Here in Round Rock Texas, in our subdivision, there are many universities represented by mainly 40+ year old couples. On our street alone, there is a Gator family, a LSU family, and three Texas families. We all poke fun at each other (guess who receives the most poking) but it is good friendly bantering. Put those same groups in the 22-30 year old range and I believe it would be a complete different situation. I could be wrong here but maybe the age group difference could be what you and Bill are seeing.
If I sat down to do the math, I'd guess the average age of the Georgia fans I know, I'd bet it would be right about 50. Tide fans... probably mid 30s.. I know more Tide fans and they range from their late 30s to late 50s.. a few 60plus... There's no difference between most of them. I find it has more to do with the person than the age.. but that's just my experience.
I remember a story that went something like this, back in the days when people took Greyhound busses from town to town there was a man sitting behind the bus driver and heard the following conversations from the driver to 2 passengers that were picked up both moving to the same town, we will call it Town A. As they got on the bus both asked the driver the same question "I am moving to Town A and want what can you tell me about the people in town A?" In both cases the driver asked the person what kind of people lived in the town they were leaving. The first person said, "people in my town were awful, the were unfriendly, nasty and would not offer to help their neighbor." The bus driver told that person, unfortunately you will find the people in Town A the same way and I doubt you will be happy there. In answer to the second person who asked the same question about the people in Town A the bus driver again asked this person about the people in the town he was leaving but got a different response from the second person who said something along the lines of Oh the people in the Town I am leaving were wonderful people, they were friendly, cheerful and always ready to help, I would not be leaving but my job is taking me to Town A. To this person made the bus driver replied, about Town A, You will love Town A, you will find the people there the same as you found them in your old town. And of course both people found the residents in Town A just as the bus driver described them. I think the Moral to the story is pretty obvious.
I actually had the same thought as Kes.. I suppose that would be applicable, except..... I loved living in Florence, but I hate living in Decatur. They are located 1 hour apart. The people, both southern... Florence perhaps more Southern than Decatur. What could have been the difference? I've spent 12plus years in this state now. I've found places that are shitty, hypocritical and corruption filled. I've found other places that I openly encourage other people to leave cities like New York and Los Angeles to spend the rest of their days in. I've lived in various regions and parts of this country. One thing I've found, is that it's almost always a two way street... except for one place, and that's the city I live in now.. (remember, I've lived here twice. This is my 2nd go round and gave it a 'fresh new start'). The fact of the matter is, some places are just desolate **** holes.
Gino Torretta says ND shouldn't be in the game and that Bama will cruise... Gary Danielson say Alabama will win by two touchdowns easily....
Gary Danielson probably scripted the game this morning... so I'm sure in his mind he's right. I sure wish we had a playoff... I'd feel pretty good about my team's chances.
