Right on all counts, Gipper. As Kelly said, it was simply blown coverage on FSU's part. ND came out spread wide right. FSU was fine at that point. Then ND shifted down into the triangle cluster just outside the TE slot. That is where FSU's #26 got lost. He got stuck on the inside. When Procise was immediately jammed at the line by his defender #26 started looking around. At that point he knows he is out of position. When Fuller runs the penetrating slant #26 was completely out of the play. He sees Robinson release into the wide open flat. he is tearing hs own helmet off as the ball is cradled by Robinson. One of his own team mates immediately starts waving his arms at #26 and yelling. They were yelling at each other, not the official. There should have been no call. Or two calls. And then ND would have had at lease two more shots from the nine.
ND is not an ACC member in football..... doesn't have any shot at the ACC title.... so FSU is the ACC's favorite son..... obviously.... much to the chagrin of those unfortunate teams that would besmirch the record of FSU in front of ACC officiating. Hey... this all brings back my deep seated hatred for the Swindle in 2003. But as a result of that blatant robbery on the field that day in the Swamp we now have instant replay review of turnovers/change of possession type miscues and other live action referee decisions which has been a good development for college football.
We do use ACC refs on the road and of course visiting teams bring their own refs to South Bend. But still those suckers hate us just like B10 refs hate us. ...but don't get me started!
This might make you Irish fans feel better: http://tigerlair.com/swindleintheswamp/evidence.html Wow.... that stuff's hard for me to read....
Do you realize that you've been taking a topic that could not be anymore specific and you've been trying to "Gator it" across multiple threads for multiple days. When you jerk off, do you shout Goooo Gators?
btw, there were a great many games/reasons that we now have video replay etc... but I do appreciate you trying to attribute it to the Gators as well.
The game was Sat. night.... it was FSU and it was ACC refs. I see the topical correlation. And I'm trying to be ND sympathetic to what happened because there is that correlation.
I don't have a problem with what Dave has been posting, we've all gotten our share of thread drifts...I'm as guilty as anybody.
I think I was one of those who "chastised" Dave over his persistent complaints about the referred-to call. However,I can see how our version brought back to him an old, haunting memory. I now understand how he felt then and feels now. I wonder what the nickname will be for our "the call"?
Hey, Dave is not the only one feeling sympathy. There is great outrage over the call here in the Peoples Republic of Ann Arbor!
"I wonder what the nickname will be for our "the call"?" Ours really is called the "Swindle in the Swamp"..... you can look it up in Wikipedia.
President Clinton also thinks the Irish got screwed: https://mobile.twitter.com/TomMendozaTalks/status/525327147565850624
Well then that settles it..... at least with this message board group. If Clinton the slimeball thought it was a bad call then by God it was a helluva gutsy correct call by the ref.....
