Well Sid is probably busy, I will step in if you don't mind. I will address your questions by point: Strip malls are a fantastic, yet played out modern phenomenon that have great usefulness to our society and are incredibly successful. Even the greatest of castles are admittedly outdated, but nevertheless majestic. You may get more bang for your buck quicker from a strip mall, but they fade quickly in time. The castle will still be as magnificent 10, 20, 50 and even 100 years from now.. at least the bet is safer on the castle. At the moment, you aren't even close to that. Why, you ask? You don't even have the greatest tradition in the state of Florida in the last 30 years. The Miami Hurricanes have 5 National Titles. You can certainly point to the direction of their program at the current time and I can point you to 3 different coaches at Miami to win NCs. That isn't to say you can't build a castle from the strip mall, but to even remotely suggest you are there is ridiculous. I would suggest that you are well on your way if things keep going in the direction they are headed the past 4 years.. however, the previous 4 years showed just how fragile your status is. Just remember, strip malls have a shelf life, castles last much longer. A whole lot longer than the past 20 or 30 years. That is not to dismiss the greatness of teams in the past 20 or 30 years.. but at the same time, you can't spit in the face of a team who has won the conference at least once in every single decade. The bottom line is, if you really want to talk 'history', you are nothing more than the 5th ranked member of your conference: http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/div_ia/sec/team_rankings.php You're not even Georgia or Tennessee yet... hands down.. LSU, not even close.. Those flippin cajuns are nuts and hilarious and obnoxious etc... but nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has more fun than they do.
Geez Corey....even in those "down" years UF had a winning season every year and played in three Outback Bowls and Chick-Fil-A. Some programs...( maybe some you know very well ) would call that successful. Otherwise UF in the last twenty years has been winning gobs of SEC titles, 3 NCs, played in another title game and just won 48 games in 4 years. LSU fans may be nuts....but not that nuts.....
Your recent run can't be denied. You still are standing in Miami's shadow. That may speak to the greatness of football being played in that state, but the bottom line is that even in the last 20 years.. Miami has won as many titles as you. If you make that number 26 years, they have 5 titles. You see, that's the difference. I can readily admit that your recent history is great. What you can't admit that their overall history is greater... The reality is that it is MUCH greater. You can't even admit that. You're trying to stretch a tiny picture to cover the bigger canvas of history and make that the portrait you deem most important. That's great. Florida uber alles. And yes, the Cajuns are that nuts Hey, at least Bill has gone from saying I hate all Southerners to just being a Gator hater.. Turns out, I'm making friends and I didn't even know it.
Without looking I'll bet Florida has won more games in the last 26 years than has Miami. Also....maybe 20-30 years from now you will consider the last 20 years to have relevance? ....and you really think Florida is done? Miami won NCs under three coaches and UF has NCs under two coaches and now we are done? First of all Meyer may not be done...says he's not and his recruiting has been off the charts the last 4 years and this year is no exception. If Meyer is done a guy like Peterson at BSU would be on the next plane. John Brantley is going to be one hell of a Qb next year and he will have Debose to throw to and a couple of others who were coming on. UF will start out in the top 5 or 6 in the country with good reason.....and much higher than Miami.
Pardon me Corey but that is about as dumb an analysis as I've ever heard. I could give a rat's $$@# about your biased opinion of Florida and that's all that rant was, your opinion. Which I have understood since I first got to know you on Prodigy. I don't understand your approach but have really gotten to the point of giving up having a civil conversation with a person who seems to find it impossible to understand why folks should have pride in any program but the ones Corey deems worthy. Unlike you I am not going to start insulting Notre Dame fans in general because of the way you conduct yourself toward my team. It, or you, just isn't worth it. Dave, you would be wrong about the 26 years, however the last 20 is a much different story. I still want to hear from Sid, but thanks for the feeble attempt at answering for him.
I don't know Bill.....UF won a lot of games in '83-85 and then still had winning records in the latter part of the decade. Hasn't Miami had some losing seasons in the last 15 years or so?
Dave, Miami had an unbelievable run starting in I think 1984 for about 10 years then another one for about 5 years ending with the loss to Ohio State. So the 26 year period. Interesting that Corey picked 26 years. For the 26 year period the top four teams in winning percentage are Miami FSU Nebraska Florida Hardly bad for us. But when you like to throw crap against the wall and see what sticks what the heck?
If that was meant about Dave you kind of have a point about him, if it was meant for me you couldn't be more wrong. More wrong except for the way you analyze yourself. The simple fact is that you never admit much of anything good about the Gators, or much of the south, with out some caveat that make it meaningless. You far overestimate your ability to recognize good things about others. Your approach to the Gators is at least as bad as you accuse MCG if not in fact worse. I'm not going to get down in the gutter with you and insult Notre Dame like you do the Gators, that's not my style. However at least tell the truth and don't be like your idol Finebum. I've got a new puppy here I need to train more so I think I'm done trying to talk logic to you and spend more time with her, she will be more responsive to reality.
Oh edited Bill, I'll do it for you.... For their Windsor Castle, we are currently Edinburgh Castle. Of course it's directed at Dave, but I don't think you realize at times that you often at least give the appearance of quiet submission or approval to his positions. I'm not saying we Irish are the model for anything outside of dysfunction, but you'll often note that we are the first to call each other out if we feel that someone is going over the top on items...even if its just a bit of comic hyperbole, there is usually someone there to point that out. Dave floats a lot of biscuits out there that don't really seem to go objected to until someone (ok I admit it, me) says something so enraging that it draws you into the discussion to make the point that 'not all Gator fans are like that' I've met a lot of Gator fans and alums that are a lot like you. Most I've met are like Dave...but rarely do I hear one calling the other out until it need be to make an 'official' separation. One often wonders... if no one said anything to start with, would you have truly objected?
Here's a biscuit for ya: "We will return 6-7 starters on offense....but that is a technicality. We started a lot more than 11 different players, depending on the set. The fact is, we have 4 returning RB's with experience, possibly the complete OL plus all of the backups with lots of experience (and we get Patchan back), an influx of WR talent, and an experienced backup QB with allstar talent. We lose Hernandez and Cooper as pass catchers, but overall we should be in for a talent upgrade at receiver. Overall --- we will lose some dynamic leaders in Tebow, Spikes, and Haden, but from top to bottom, we may have more experienced talent than we have at any time under Meyer....and that does not even include the INCREDIBLE recruiting class we're about to sign." Side note: watch the Army All-Star game today  8)
And all of that is a very good reason for optimism for Florida's continued success. I look forward to the coming years fights in the SEC picture. It should make all of us better.
Corey, I will only say this about your last post. I dismiss it as ridiculous. I don't challenge Dave on everything in the hope that by doing that conversations might be limited to people and statements without painting the whole program. Which unfortunately is your MO. Even more ridiculous is your statement about Gator fans. Notice also that even though you take those approaches I do not start insulting Notre Dame. It would be easy to attach your MO to all Notre Dame fans but I don't. If you would simply take that approach with MCG, then I will stay out of more. I'm done talking about this with you on this topic, but will be glad to continue on the topic I started so we might discuss some of this in a well deserved topic of it's own.
Should be fun Kp....and it starts next season in Tuscaloosa. How does Bama look with returnees and recruiting?
kp, there is a decent possibility that Florida and Alabama meet twice next season, once during the regular season and then we could meet again in Atlanta. But there 10 other teams that would like to derail that possibility.
MCG, Alabama loses our TE, but other than that our offense stays pretty much intact. Our defense loses alot. Cody, McClain (leaving early), Arenas, and Jackson may leave early as well. Like Florida though many of these (except McClain and Arenas) have had backups rotate in during the year. Bill, I agree totally, Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn and LSU at least.
I see both offenses scoring points in bunches next year. There is a lot of talent at both schools to replace defensive stars lost so that side of the ball will be the mystery for both schools. I can't believe Dunlap will stay at UF but if he does then I give Fla the edge on D over what you say Bama has left. I don't think he stays however.
