 It's a foul ball. All bases are in fair territory, so any ball striking a base is automatically fair. A ball striking the pitcher's rubber must then travel beyond first and third to be fair. The dugouts are located in foul territory, so any ball traveling into the dugout without first passing beyond a base is foul.
Thanks, Jim. I learned something new today. My #2 grandson is starting at SS on the freshman baseball team, so I'll be watching a lot of HS baseball this spring. Who knows? If I see a play like we've discussed, I'll sound like I know what I'm talking about.
The incident I sited actually happened in a 15 year old league game I was coaching. I successfully argued that it was a foul ball even though neither I nor the Umpires had any real knowledge of the rule. 8) It was at that moment that I knew sales was my future.
LOL. Good thing you didn't whip out a rule book on them. Any umpire will automatically eject you if you wave a rule book in his face...
A couple of drunken idiots ran on the field during the Yankees v Oriels game yesterday and were handcuffed by police and removed. Oriel CF Adam Jones wanted more. He suggested that the police be allowed to beat them in front of the crowd. He also suggested that they be tased publicly before the stadium crowd. He went on to say that the players themselves should be allowed to kick and stomp them with "their metal spikes". Jones has been referred to Dr. Buddy Rydell for consultation.
I think there have been a couple of instances where players have become involved with chasing down an unruly/drunk fan on the field. But it's really not in their best interests, while not very likely, they could be injured. Of course then there was Morgana! Can you name that Dodger?
I actually don't know, we'll have to wait till JO'Co gets home from school again! Can anybody even tell what team the other player is from?
Well I'll be...Krebs is right. I googled the image and it's on ebay with the original newspaper notation. It is Wes Parker and the other player is none other than former Astro Doug "The Rooster" Rader. Did you recognize Parker or did you google it like I did?
 I recognized Parker in the photo. He played for he Dodgers in the 1960's and he had played locally for the Claremont Colleges before that. I did not, however, recognize the Rooster...
